My fundamental problem with the wheelspins (also known as lootboxes in other games) as implemented in FH4 is that they’re now an integral part of game progression instead of a nice bonus like in earlier Forza games. With the exception of HE cars, all the cars in the wheelspins could be purchased from the autoshow. If a duplicate car was awarded, it could be sold for cash so there was always some sort of bonus, but it wasn’t anything that would make or break your game.
Now, there’s a huge number of cars locked behind wheelspins that are also competing with the new cosmetic items (that really should have been in their own store) and the game has been tuned to award more wheelspins in place of credits, making them in effect the main form of progression. On top of that, duplicate cars can no longer be sold, so a significant number of wheelspins have an effective value of zero since the AH is flooded with these cars everyone already has and doesn’t want.
The progression isn’t really any slower than previous Forza titles (with the exception of a handful of wheelspin exclusive cars that are nearly impossible to find on the AH), if anything it’s too fast. However, it just doesn’t feel good. I don’t really appreciate the cars I get from the wheelspins, and when I get a duplicate car or ugly cosmetic item I feel cheated by the game even if logically on average I’m still making lots of credits overall.
Absolutely. I find the game’s focus on giving you spins on top of spins on top of spins in bad taste. It’s like the game is desperate to get and keep you hooked by giving you that cheap rush of gambling that has nothing to do with gameplay - even though there’s no real money involved.
It’s hard for me to understand people complaining about getting cosmetics in wheelspins, because I don’t think the problem is ever with the rewards but the whole spin mechanic itself. It was never really this in-your-face in earlier games (although getting a ton of wheelspin cars early on in H3 was sort of overwhelming as well). Also, with wheelspin-exclusive cars, you can’t simply ignore this part of the game. If there’s stuff you want in there - or if you indeed want to customize your character - the game pushes you to work toward as many spins as possible.
I do understand, and in principle respect, the idea behind non-linearizing the progression in these games. I just wish the system chosen to do that wasn’t as cheap and resentful, but something with a bit more… artistic integrity?
So… What huge numbers of cars are locked behind wheelspins? Also, why is it bad? It isnt a lootbox because we get them at no expense. We are not paying real money to get keys.
The cars in wheelspins excluding the FE editions is novelty or real special stuff like the crown vics. Once more, why is it bad that some stuff isnt able to be purchased outside of auction. Not like they give some broke advantage over other people. It is a vanity car to show off and have fun with. Naturally peeps get upset when they see others. Welcome to jealousy. But then it everybody could get it cheap, it no longer has much value in game.
I agree on duplicats being no value with AH only though. I typically just trash all dupes unless, something special. But I dont agree that all cars are no interest. That might be if you only care about one or two cars in the whole game, but I typically still get something new of interest each season and use that next season. Drive around the different cars, enjoy the scenery. If you got all the cars already, then why even care about the money aside from saving for the 10m stuff.
But yeah, an alternative to dupes aside from auction house would be nice all the same. Even as FP. 5 uncommon, 10 common and so up.
I have all the cars but it’s still nice to get some cars on wheelspins even i have enough credits to buy any car i want just like i get centanario few days ago and winter was coming so i make it winter car. And i would like to see option get rid off car right away when win it on wheelspin even for free because it’s just save time that dont need manualy remove that from garage.
I also have a theory that wheelspin payout is tied directly to how much “work” you do in-game, and maaaaybe to past payouts. For the past week I haven’t done any racing at all, just wandering about doing forzathon stuff and listening to podcasts. Last Thursday I tried to do a build for my Stratos and could not afford it, looked up and saw that I had 3,000 credits. I thought “that’s a shame” and then the Forzathon thing came up again and I forgot all about it. I played this game a lot this week (unemployed) but I really did not spend any time racing, or doing anything of any worth, just absent-minded “forzathon running” as somone up there derisively called it. I wound up with a bunch more super spins than I usually have, plus a fairly regualr stream of normal ones from skills and levels and whatever.
The strange thing is, I noticed that all throughout this week, even the POSSIBLE prizes have been of conspicuously lower value than usual. It’s just an early Destiny style cascade of green and blue. My prizes were invariably terrible (this morning I had about 25k, still not enough to get my Lancia into A class), but I found it funny that there were never actually any good prizes in any of my rotations. I must have rolled 60 or 70 supers this week. I think my lack of actual ingame “work” is connected, because I finally did a couple of races tonight and the first spin out of those had a purple thing, unfortunately I won it and it was clothes. I wonder if there’s more to this? It makes logical sense the game would dial down the rewards for the players who don’t actually play the game (and to be clear, I am not complaining that I have no money after a week of not racing. It makes sense and I expcted to stay poor, this is more about curiously considering how the wheelspins work, it’s probably all coincidence)
I also wonder if winning a big prize in a spin makes the spins a little hesitant to keep doling things out? Because last Tuesday, I won a 10 million credit race car after doing a tiny drag race. I think that might even have been the last race I did until today
Also I wanna echo the annoyance at not being able to just sell duplicates to the game or whatever, convert them into credits. I understand that the auction house is there, I know how to use it and have in the past, but there’s no one wants to buy any of my stupid wheelspin duplicates because they all have 4 of them too! Why did they even take that option away? I didn’t want the first S14 what makes you think I wanted 5 more? And my only option is to either let them eat away at my limited cap, waste server space leaving them uncollected after their auction fails, or just delete them and convert them into mere heat energy. Not one of those three things is compelling gameplay. They are all symbolic forms of waste, just let me delete the car and get half its value like the old days and stop wasting my time and space with ugly chrome boots oh my god, I like fashion and would love to dress my avatar up if you had put even a single nice outfit in there, but, lol, yall have some weeeeird taste. Tangent!
I dont think so, i get all the time those 5k rolls and super rarely won any expensive cars (i have won one 10 million car in last two month). And earlier when i wrote up 1000 wheelspins every 100 wheelspin period give almost same payout, and after having all cosmetic stuff only change on wheelspin was there was mutch more common prizes, i think abaout 75-80% of my wheelspins are now common rewards.
none of what you said discounts my theory because you didn’t mention how many races and other “content” you had completed in the time period whose length you also failed to specify. have another go
also if i were a more superstitious woman i’d think the spins are listening to me, ever since moaning about winning too manyS14s, i have won 5 more stupid s14s. i’d be up to 15 if i didn’t delete them immediately because no one will buy them. the game is just trying to spite me now lol
Maybe i didint tell that because i dont keep counting how many race i do per day or certain time period. But i remember when i did 50 lap goliath run after 95 wheelspin when i was get 2,2m i thinking “damn these are worst wheelspin that i have ever have” then i won million credits and it’s bump totally amount of cash in those 100 wheelspins at 3,3m and every time when i count those wheelspins it was abaout 3m credit per 100 wheelspin every time. And when im not here ranting im usually driving around test track so i race a lot and still my most common wheelspin is 5k cr.
I have one point same thing with corrado than you with s14, and keep getting all the time corrados but lately thank god i havent got any (havent done mutch wheelspin either because garage is full all the time if spin those)
just add the option to exchange clothes and duplicate cars with money. Just an option so it ask’s you. do you want to keep the car? or we will give you credits instead.
On an Xbox controller, all you’d need is three options after each prize rather than the current two: Press ‘A’ to Claim Prize and Spin Again; Press ‘B’ to Claim Prize; Press ‘X’ to Redeem Prize for XXXX CR
Are you actively hitting a button to skip to the prize or letting the game bring the roller(s) to a stop?
For the times when skip is not an option (after race) are you hitting buttons or moving the thumbsticks?
My theory ties into activity and the quality of car and gear your avatar wears…
With almost 1500 hours of gameplay…
I have had better luck/success on wheels spins driving a Legendary or FE car and wearing epic to legendary gear during the wheel spin.
A win against unbeatable AI (drag race, circuit, etc.) seems to reward better if leveling up at time of completion
Skill-point wheel spins (outside of garage) reward the least compare to rival level rewards. (Rivals>Road/Street/Cross-Country/Dirt>Drag Racing>wheel spins that are collected during Team Adventure>Wheel Spin rewards from leveling and other part of Horizon Life
There is a way to slow the roller(s) by moving the thumbsticks/hitting buttons/bumpers or triggers… I prefer to skip while the gold or purple prize is just past the winning section (it is all about timing the button press)
A weird trend I have notice most recently… Race against the cars you want.
Create custom blueprint races where the AI will drive the car you want (but don’t already have) Exception being the Ford Capri FE and Honda CRX Mugen. The level up wheel spins untouched seem to reward that wheel spin only car you just raced against. (try my Wacky Wavy Tubeman race to the left of the highway)
Superwheelspins got worse in last 2 days. In 7-8 I did I won BMW M1, lots of clothing items and really low Credit prizes ( in one I got 10k and 20k X2 in the other 10k and 2x 5k)
It’s not worth spending your Forzathon points anymore. Even the one I got for Drift Club gave me crappy reward.
Totally agree with this, it has caused me to stop doing Forzathon Live as it’s a total waste of time now. Two super wheelspins on the trot gave me <15k total. It takes something like 20 mins of gameplay to earn a super wheelspin from forzathon live, plus the overhead of travelling there a bit in advance. As you can make 150k in just a few minutes via skill points and buying the 1982 911, it makes no sense at all to spend so much time to win <15k, so I’m now only doing Forzathon live to get enough points to buy the exclusive cars, there’s no point at all buying super wheelspins with the points. I agree it seemed to suddenly change recently.
Up until yesterday it was fine for me. If I didn’t win a cool car I’d win half a million in Credits.
Something went wrong and I don’t feel like playing anymore.
