What's the difference between buying cars from the auction house and buying them directly new?

As the title says is there any difference major difference between the 2 ? Because I see cars in the auction house much , much cheaper than directly buying them new.

Thanks,
Spov

Selling used. Highest buyer wins

So what’s the point of buying cars new if they are x5 times cheaper buying them used ? And most of the time you can even get them tuned up cheaper.

yes no point in buying new.

Some cars are very rare right now like the 57 Chevy so buying new could be the best option. Boring and common cars, even some Ferraris, are dirt cheap. Always try to buy the tuned versions and reset to stock If desired. I suspect that the majority of listings are during North American awake hours so folks in other time zone may find more buyers at that time

Ah okay thanks for the advice guys

If I get it right, you can’t tune cars that’s bought from the AH… Atleast I couldn’t after I bought 2 cars from AH. Only upgrade and change design, but no tuning.

Lol you can tune any car in the game. If it has a locked setup just delete it. If a car is cheaper on the AH buy it. This isn’t the real world where used actually matters.

Before deleting the tune take note of the aftermarket wheels, tires and aero items. You already own them and cost nothing to reinstall when you do your own tuning.

Buying from the AH you can get custom paints or custom tunes.

The only downside is that i you reset the tuning you cannot get back what was on there before. Sometimes that doesn’t matter and you can get a great deal on the AH.

Most of the time though, for basic cars the buyout will be around SF cost or a little higher and the hope is that if they start bidding lower the price will eventually climb. You can get some rare cars pretty cheap this way.

i sold most of my cars in the AH at half prices, i only keep the ones i really like and use ^^

For completely stock cars you can usually find the car in the Auction House at a buyout under the Autoshow price. Last night I found a 288 GTO for a 1.6mil buyout, as opposed to the 3.1mil price in the autoshow - pretty chuffed about that.

It was, however, the only listing for that car so you might find yourself waiting a while for some cars to appear in the AH. Unless there’s a special tune or paint job it’s probably not worth bidding either - you’ll just get sniped and sniped over and over until you realise you have better things to do than spend half an hour bidding on a stock car on the chance that you /might/ save a few hundred thousand credits you could have just raced for in the meantime.

Won a fully tuned Agera in the AH for $1.1mil last night. I mostly just wanted an Agera so I could put the Thule cargo box on top and this one already had it and is fully tuned so I’m cool with only saving $400k.

Also, if you win a tuned car in the AH and delete the locked tune you still have the parts they had on the car. So you can put all those performance parts back on after they get taken off for free. One weird thing about it is when you are putting stuff in your cart if there was a turbo conversion done with upgraded turbos if you put just the normal turbo conversion in your cart it won’t show “owned” and shows a price. Once you go to the turbo upgrades, there should be one that says “owned” and when equipping that one it will take the conversion out of your shopping cart and the parts will cost $0. Same goes for superchargers and engine swaps (i.e cams, fuel injections, air filter, etc. AFTER the swap). And that’s how I got a 1000hp AWD Jag MkII that I was able to convert into an old timey police cruiser for $40k :).

Also, if you’re trying to get nerdy with stuff you can check the mileage on your cars too. Go into my cars and when you get the screen with the “get in car” option you can go to car history and it will tell you the miles, how many owners, etc. I know its just a blob of pixels but I get stoked when I win a Ferrari for less than half of MSRP with 0 miles.

So after buying two cars in the Auction, I have been banned from buying more cars.

This is game breaking and needs to be sorted.

I usually just buy out popular cars, like Aventador, from the auction house with a really good value. Because lots of people place bid on them, and the price often goes up to the buy out price anyway. For less popular cars, R8 for example (for some reason, not many people buy it), find the lowest bid possible with a relatively short time left, and bid on it. Maybe people will place a higher bid, if you really want the car, just bid again with a higher price, but the price won’t go as high as the buy out price.

Also note that, some cars in the auction house has some crazy tune installed from the previous owner, you can put it back to stock if you can’t control it.

I know this isn’t really what you asked, but that are some of my experience and tips.

I rather wish that the AH was set up a bit more like eBay. Being able to place a maximum bid would help save a lot of time. Especially since by the time I’m made aware that I’ve been outbid, the auction is already over.

I agree with this! I also wish there were more flexibility in setting AH prices, I wanted my duplicate HE car, a BMW M4, to start at 100,000 credits, but the minimum starting bid was 200,000 credits.
