Man at all the nice things. Old classics, new classics, a couple of bikes, some mean trucks, and a selection of European sleeper wagons and sedans and coupes, and a wide variety of sporty Euro hatches and JDM sedans and coupes… I really need to win the lottery, or something.
And then there’s my brother from another mother sporting a similar Jeep. Gen1 Grand Cherokee, black, one of the 90s models…4wd, automatic… It ain’t much to look at, but it goes just about anywhere I can take it, around here. Previous vehicle was a gen2 Ford Escort Wagon, red. Little Red Rocket, or The Incredible Invisible Wagon, depending on whether someone jumped out in front of me and didn’t get up to speed in a hurry, or if I jumped out in front of someone else and then got the hell out of their way by moving down the road at a relatively good rate of acceleration. Sorry, no pictures at the moment. Me and cameras…don’t seem to get along well, somehow.
The Escort was from family heirloom, so to speak. Family had a nearly identical but older gen1 Taurus that died before they got the Escort. When it came time, the Escort went to me, and the folks picked up an old Honda, think a gen1 or gen2 Accord. Then the Escort died and I picked up the Jeep from a brother-in-law, who is a skilled but flawed mechanic. He’s great at figuring out a problem, but the results are mixed when it comes time for him to do any work in a timely manner…he’ll either do the work in record time and it’ll be perfect and he won’t accept payment because you’re family, or he’ll put the work off forever…
My dad had an assortment of old muscle cars that he and I both beat him up over any time we see one. One Challenger or another…some others… Also had a Beetle, which we also beat him up over. And a Toyota, not sure of the model…Celica, maybe…gen3 or so… We beat him up over that, too. Least interesting thing he’s had was an Isuzu P’UP, which a brother in law somehow managed to flip and total without getting hurt in. The Isuzu we beat the brother in law up over, and sometimes mourn it’s loss because, hey, even a weak pickup is still a pickup, and sometimes you just need a pickup, period, no ifs ands or buts.
