What is wrong with the Difficulty of this Stupid game?

I know it sounds like semantics, but given I saw a drivatar stick a hard curve in an icy corner. When I tried to match their speed and line I slid sideways into the barrier, so I’m sure you can understand why I’m unconvinced. I think there is some kind of speed limiter thrown on them to mimic the effects of them bogging down. On the other hand, I would not be surprised if they could gain the advantages of a mimicked build. Thing is, all of that I can handle, but the corner-cutting has to stop! Either hit them with the same penalty (force them to respawn at the checkpoint) or let me follow their line without penalty.

Here is something I have noticed after doing a good number of 5 or 6 lap races of Goliath, which tells me something is not what we were led to believe with the Drivatars,

Most of my opponents will be my Team members, while the rest will be random drivers.

In any given race there will be 3 or 4 of the Drivatars that will be right with me through out the race (for the most part… sometimes falling behind, other times overtaking me, only to fall behind again).

There will always be 2 that I lap some time during lap 5 of the race. Yes, they are that slow and don’t seem to be very good.

Now here is the interesting part to me. It is not the same drivatars that are the fast ones, or the slow ones from race to race.
“Drivatar A” may be the one on my tail in one race, while in another race that drivatar is the one I catch up with and pass during lap 5.

This seems to be telling me that the abilities of my competition are predetermined:
3 quite good, 2 terrible and the rest in the middle, AND that the actual drivatars assigned to each of the competitors is random.

Has anyone else experienced (or even noticed) this?

@luckeydoug1 - i have been saying for a long time that the drivatars are replicating a performance level and not the name above their head nor proper builds.

I did 2 lap run of Goliath and yep same ole same ole since last I ran.

2 drivatards near and behind me (never passed me as we were muscle cars and for some reason the AI can’t run them well)

A third a bit further back and group much further back - that if it was a legitimate race probably should have been black flagged as they clearly were WAY off pace.

And yes. For me it is always differing drivatar names that hold those positions. Drivatar, Rubberdave, will go from being the bane to my existence to being an easy back marker to pass.

Something is way off when a competent driver struggles on New Racer. (I don’t) but the 2 or three drivatars that hang with me. Should never be able to if they were indeed “new Racer” difficulty. No new racer real or otherwise is going to be in my rear view for much after a couple of turns. I assume that it’s a scripted response to keep up an artificial sense of tension and competition. There are times when I don’t mind it. But if I want to get rid of it I should be able to do so. In my opinion.

Pervasive when you say the hang with you, how close do you mean?

On Goliath they (2 of them) are on north side of silver sands and I’m on south side guessing 4-10seconds back or so, or there abouts.

the extreme track toys are mostly steering heavy cars, which don’t do that well on most tarmac tracks in this games. I’d suppose a tuned caterham 7 could outpower most cars in class, with enough steering to take corners fine

I just did a tarmac race with the S1 Jag Project 7, you need power in this game as handling doesnt really matter unless its a tight circuit. in S1 I tend to keep handling at around 7.2.

I’ve noticed they are a lot worse in the cross country events, always on my ass!!
