What is the purpose of 10 gear transmission?

^Drivatars aren’t using 10 gear boxes? LOL! They’re even using launch control.

The drivetrain and power should be irrelevant. An DTM (Group A) M3 E30 has a 5 gear gearbox. That’s a real racing one. Not the 7(+) gear crap branded “racing” we’ve ingame.

Ok, let’s just ignore physics and mechanical engineering then.

You’ve completely changed the car. It’s an M3 in chassis only, and just barely even there. You’ve done all that but suddenly having gearbox options with more gears is “unrealistic”? You don’t have a leg to stand on.

You can push out the 6 speed to act like a 5 speed if you really want to. The only difference between it and a real 5 speed would be the weight of the extra gear, which Forza Horizon 5 puts at 2 kg. But it’s going to be bad on that build, and no “natural” 5 speed option is going to magically make it better than the 7 speed. Do I wish 5 speed racing gearboxes were a thing in this game? Absolutely, but it’s not the biggest deal that they’re missing, and you’re being ridiculous to the point of hysterical about it.

You mean like the AI in this game?

I see were you’re coming from and can’t really disagree. I’ve already said that I push out the 7th gear (with other cars) and it’s actually not that bad. The thing is that it’s an unnecessary hassle. Especially considering that we’ve over 500 cars already and manually changing single gear ratios is simply way to time consuming vs. having “proper” gearboxes available were you’d only have to adjust one slider instead. The info with the 2kg is interesting (but irrelevant with that power). Your opinion about 5 gear ones shows me that I’m not that far off and I actually don’t understand why they had to change it compared to FH4.

Besides that I exaggerate a bit on purpose.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding… But if someone hates the higher gear options they can choose not to use them?

Or are we trying to inject expectations of ‘realism’ into a game that has a carbon fibre-chassis’d hypercar ramping 12 kilometers chortle

I definitely needed a 10 speed when tuning a Hummer with the original Diesel for 700 rating. Power band is tight and needed all 10 gears to get it going while still being able to achieve theoretical top speed. Terrible for racing really, but was awesome for literally going straight up the mountain, literally feeling almost vertical at times.

Also, if you are trying to fit a car into a certain class, you can upgrade to the 10 speed for the added weight to help bring the PI down and then just gear it for however many gears you plan to actually use.

I was about to say exactly that.

I don’t really get why people are complaining about having too many fully adjustable gears. If the gears were locked or there were not enough of them I would get it but the only problem is that you don’t want to spend the time to find the gear ratios that will make the most out of what your car has to offer? And if you don’t need all of them, you can just make all the unneeded gears the same as your top gear. I don’t get it…

It’s not hard, even if you are lazy. Just adjust the final drive to your liking if you don’t want it to be complicated.

I’ve to admit that at first I hadn’t noticed that the standard gearboxes are adjustable now. This wasn’t the case with FH4 where they were basically all locked. Playing into this is the fact that only the racing boxes have a description that says something like “unlocks full adjustability” in the yellow box. This is clearly wrong and let to the related confusion in the first place.

We get 10 gears for basically every car while the standard boxes are often the wrong ones. A prominent example here is the M3 E30 again which originally has 5 gears but such isn’t available at all (standard in game is 6). Besides that a 5 gear racing one should be available as I already pointed out before.

Like said I can see that 7+ can be a thing for certain types of cars but they shouldn’t be available for like for example a Hummer in my opinion. Another problem with them is that the AI only seems to use the 10 gear ones. Which explains their insane acceleration right from the start. This may not be a thing if you’re using auto yourself but becomes one if you’re shifting manually. You can now say then go auto and use the 10 gear ones yourself but that is not how I and a lot of other people want to play the game.

The way it currently is is ruining the game. Realism considered or not.

Some cars come with already upgraded transmission as stock, but most cars A and below still have locked gears on stock.

I agree it’s a bit upsetting playing with clutch and 6 gear shifter, I get left behind on a RWD easily on launch and on acceleration after a corner. At best I keep pace on Expert, but I need to go paddle shift or auto if I want to go above Expert.

is for giving the " fast and the furious " experience

It allows the car to be in the power band all the time.

Heavy vehicles and certain X/S2 builds should benefit from more gears with good/perfect shifting but I don’t think it really matters enough in this game.

Heavy vehicles still benefit from it but if you aren’t great at shifting you are going to be better with a lower amount of gears.

You folks are unbelievably petty.

Awd conversion adds tunable gears.
Want 4 gears? Push 4th to the end of the graph.
Want 5 gears? Push 5th to the end of the graph.
Why is this a hill you guys want to die on?
I think the additional gears cannot be anything but a good thing, allowing us more tuning combinations. Not to mention putting the 10 speed in drops pi, to allow bigger front tires or more hp. Quit complaining on the internet.
