What is optimal tire heat and tire pressure?

I’m venturing from the drag world, have a rwd 2002 SS Camaro that’s running 8.5’s in the 1/4 mile and I’m looking to go 8.4 very soon. I’m hoping that your track experience can help me out. I’m launching at 28psi in the back tires. Thanks.

32-33 PSI @ Hot
190 - 220 when on a straight.

Just wondering. If good in race tire pressure is 32~33 psi hot, shouldn’t the drag tire pressures be set at 32~33 at launch, i.e. cold?

Never really done drag personally, but id agree that 32ish would be best maybe ? Unless the game takes into account that at a lower psi the contact patch would be slightly larger trial and error I guess

For DRAG…many of the tunes I have downloaded have the tire pressures (by checking telemetry at a flat track at start line) set at max for Front (55psi) and at about 32.5psi for Rear.

Thanks for the info RPRK. I think that is in line with my thinking and also consistent with the generally agreed upon guideline that the best grip is achieved between 32~34psi.

55 psi at front seems rather unnecessary to me. True that higher tire pressure results in very slightly higher top speed but I have not tested the range of tire pressures to know when it no longer becomes a factor . . .

Interesting though . . .

I’ve seen consistent 8.5’s in the 1/4mile using 28psi to 32psi though I’ve ran a personal best of 8.550 using 28psi in the rear. I always run 55psi up front because more pressure equals less rolling resistance (especially with the amount of front camber we run on the strip.) So here are my recommendations after a few days of testing. Front wheel drive = 28psi front / 55psi rear. Rear wheel drive = 55psi front, 28psi rear. All wheel drive = 28psi front and rear.

Thanks for everyones input. I’ll be looking into the suspension to see if I can make her any faster! Tires are good.

Yes, for a circuit car you want a hot race tire to be between 32 and 33 psi and a temperature range of 185 - 235 degrees fahrenheit.

The game does always start you cold, and it does not give you time to heat up your tires whether circuit or drag racing. I would think that if the above stats are optimum hot stats, you’d want to be as close as possible to those stats at the beginning of a drag race. The drag race is very, very short, and you don’t have several laps to heat up the tires, so start them at the optimal setting right from the beginning.

Full Disclosure: I don’t drag race in Forza, and when I do, I tend to download other people’s tunes. My tuning abilities are aimed at circuit racing.
