S70 took 850 and built uppon it to help Volvo to get closer to its rivals. The fastest model was R model with 2.5 Inline 5 pushing 250 PS through the front wheels. Well, that was only the case when you ordered it with manual gearbox. Automatic cars had 10 PS less (at least on paper)
It had its sister V70 model with same drivetrain.
