1989 Gol MkI GTI
Although the name sounds suspiciously similar to the Golf, the Gol was designed by Volkswagen Brazil with a unique platform, and was originally equiped with the flat-4 Beetle engine.

2000 GTI (no, 2000 isn’t the year here, it’s engine displacement) is definitely way to go as it was the 1st Brazilian car with electronic fuel injection. Downside of this update over earlier cars was that the 2 litre GTI couldn’t run on ethanol straight from factory (unlike older models).
Gol (do not confuse it with Golf), was designed as replacement to Beetle and Brasilia.
