Voice Chat?

The game has been out 3 months and I’ve yet too hear or talk to a single person. Is this issue going to be fixed soon? I would think it would be high on the list of bugs but I guess pc players aren’t important. No voice chat + trash team adventure and freeplay make this the worst multiplayer experience I’ve had with forza.

[Mod Edit - thread merged, see post #9 - MM]

still has not been fixed. haven’t heard anyone speak since I bought the game a week or two after release.

I have the mic I use (blue yeti) set as a default recording device, I also have mic enabled in the game and also within the Xbox app. since buying the game I have not heard a single person talk in any game mode, convoy or free roam and I myself am not able to activate my mic. Can someone please help me because every time I play I feel like the game is lifeless contrary to the “social” experience turns 10 marketed it as. FH3 mic worked fine and I can talk to people in the lobbies and free roam.

4 months in and its still not fixed. If its not fixed in the next update I’ll be blown away with their incompetence and neglect of the pc platform. I don’t expect much as this is the same dev team that ruined the multiplayer aspect of this game in soo soo many ways. They hyped FH4 up so much and I thought it was going to be the best Horizon game to date. Im extremely disappointed. They only had great sales because of the false hype. That and some review sites giving this heaping pile of garbage reviews like 9.5/10 being completely satisfied with the stripped down choice-less multiplayer.

There are specific Discord channels. I have not tried them yet, but use Discord for many games. Nice thing is, you can join one with your language, bad thing is -you will not then hear others playing in matches/races/etc - that speak other languages even on your team (or no one, if nobody is on the channel with whom you are racing, etc). Only the ones on that channel. Discord is great for most games with teams, guilds, parties - but is difficult with the random groupings on games like this.

I only understand English, so would never understand what someone is saying in French, etc. I don’t think there is a good answer because of the diverse groupings, all random (unless ya know every language, lol). I think the typing to chat would be a help tho’. At least for after the event to respond to a quick chat, or ask a question. Someone will know your language in the group.

Just my thoughts.

I used to hear people all the time and could plug in and communicate in freeroam back in FH3.

Does FH4 support this, i have not heard a thing since day one?
Is there a magic setting somewhere?
I have not changed any settings but I hear nothing in FH3 anymore either… I see mics flashing on screen but hear nothing anymore.

Voice chat on PC has been broken since day 1 and the dev team is failing at fixing the issue. Claiming its not widely reported even though it affects the entire PC player base. VERY ANNOYING.

I have a strong feeling the reason Xbox users have voice chat is because they are plugging their mic into the Xbox One controller using the audio port on the bottom. Meanwhile us PC users are plugging our mic and headset into our PC not the controller and thus we have no voice chat. Can any Xbox players confirm they can hear voice chat without a headset plugged into the controller?

Yes, I can hear voice chat without my headset plugged in to the controller. It comes through the TV speakers when my headset is not plugged in. I don’t play on PC, but on Xbox some people have issues with voice communication because their Xbox Live Security & Privacy settings are set to only being able to communicate with friends or is blocked entirely rather than allowing access with everybody, or they have the voice audio turned off in the settings. I believe I have watched streams of PC users and they don’t seem to have any voice communication issues during gameplay (through both in-game chat or party chat). Also, if you are in a party you cannot hear in-game chat unless you physically switch the setting from party chat to in-game (then you won’t hear party chat). Not sure if any of these are possible causes… The image below is the setting for Xbox live on all devices connected with your Microsoft account. For Xbox consoles there is a different tab that also controls this (Online Safety).

The community feel of FH4 gameplay is pretty much zero, what with:

  • No audio chat in free-roam.
  • Cars ghosted in free-roam, so you can’t even see liveries.
  • No car meets.
  • No road trips.

Yes, I am aware of convoys. But these can get annoying if the leader is a potato.

I am on x box but no voice at all.
My settings are communicate with everyone etc etc.

I will just assume its properly broken and not worry about it.

BTW my post was moved to this old thread, had I have read it first I wouldn’t have bothered to ask.

Thanks anyway.

It is almost necessary to have an in-game chat box in any PC multiplayer. It just comes with the territory. In a game like Forza, it’s “absolutely necessary”. No ifs or buts, or questions about it.

I need to be able to ask everyone in the session at the same time -
“who’s down to do Highway pulls”, or “who’s down for drag races at this specific location”; for example. Maybe it’s something else. Maybe I just want to invite everyone around me to Legoland without having to exit the game, or go to the player list or any of the extra time consuming missions that Turn10 currently has us going on just to communicate a simple idea to a fellow player.

Im disgusted of having to go to each player in the session’s player list to send them each a separate message via XBOX companion or invite them to Chat. Who wants to send messages back and forth or chat on a mic with a total stranger??? That just doesn’t make any sense. Just last week, I got a chat invite from a kid who was like 13 years old. It was extremely awkward to say the least, as I’m a grown man. If we had an in game chat, we would have been able to chat/hang out without any issues; despite our age difference.

The Convoy invite/quick chat options are outdated/senseless and do not get the right message across. Having an in-game chat provides better privacy, safety and overall convenience. It also adds the social elements which everyone wants to experience in a game like this. As much as many people want to criticize GTA Online’s in game Chat and toxicity, it WORKS. After 5 years, GTA sessions are still populated and the game still sells like hotcakes… despite its downsides and small map.

The truth of the matter is, that without an in-game chat in Horizon ,everything you want to plan or do with other players takes longer or becomes impossible to accomplish. The game feels empty/lonely most of the time. I’d rather deal with game chat toxicity than loneliness in a multiplayer game, and as I mentioned above; people would most probably feel more comfortable not having to privately message/chat with strangers who are most probably in a different age group.

Turn 10 provides 2 updates with 2 new smaller maps, which are cool…but fails to provide an update which features what the
community really needs. In both the new Maps, we face the same problem. Beautiful environment that feels LONELY/EMPTY!!!

The PC version has been missing mic support since it launched, and they never once brought it up or plan to fix it? How am I supposed to communicate in a friendly manner without going into my xbox app and sending them a message they’ll probably never see?

Im playing this game for months but i have never heard any voice of other players and my mic also never works. (Playing on PC)

Tried every possible solution: Xbox and windows privacy settings, changed multiple headsets and mics, drivers, changing default communication devices and etc. I cant find a proper fix for this yet.

Any help or ideas would be really appreciated, thanks.

If you made the correct adjustments to your Xbox Live privacy settings then it should work if you’re playing on an Xbox One console. That’s all I’ve ever had to do to get it to work. However, I’m not so sure about PC because I’ve read about people having issues with that for a while now. That being said, from my experience most players don’t use voice chat when playing with random people. But if you’re playing with a private convoy and you can’t communicate with your teammates, then you’ll need to verify those privacy settings again as well as the condition of your headset. If you need further assistance, then you should definitely contact Support for more information.

Personally, I’ve heard people talking in random races only a handful of times during the past 3-4 months. And that was all happening within the game itself without the need for any external app configurations. Come to think of it, the other day I heard someone breathing pretty heavily into his mic. So yeah, it does work on Xbox One consoles. Again – not so sure about PC.

have played this game almost daily since release and still have not heard a single person. i see “mic” icons lite up like someone is talking but dead silence. Don’t care if it is just broken or left out of the game because of the text chat, oh wait, let me pull over and go into settings so i can select a different reply!!

Is there a way to turn off peoples voice chat
I want it off becuase I dont want to hear peoples voice (and im on windows 10)

Not quite sure on that buddy I’m on the Xbox One with a cheap turtle Bay set and I can never find no one at least speak to to try to get information love the game just confused about how to communicate and get help. KillerBud2u hopefully I can see you on the game sometime and we can at least convoy and help one another race on man

hello people i play on pc only how can i make sure that auction house can play freely and thus sell cars please comment

What they really should do is implement a proximity-based chat system, that way all the issues that come with global chat are no longer an issue, and if you drive up to someone you see in the world you guys can talk for a minute, get a feel for each other, then make some plans for a convoy or something. talk about your cars and liveries, and just have a all-in-all better time together.

If we had proximity chat is forza it would be amazing.
