As an homage to the 50th anniversary of Ford’s dominating performance at Le Mans, Virtual Vintage will be hosting a 24 hour endurance race on May 21-22, 2016. We will be utilizing a pared down field of iconic Le Mans racers from 1965-1968 split across 3 classes, with cars built to meet their original race specification as closely as possible within the game while also being balanced for parity as required.
For logistical reasons, our initial intent is to limit the field to 20 teams with 3-5 racers per team, but if there is enough interest and support, additional lobbies may be added.
More information will be presented in the coming days.
If interested, please visit Virtual Vintage Motorsport for more information.
This sounds like a whole lot of fun! however I don’t think I will be available for the full time frame in may, however if we scale down the race to last 4 hours or so, I can partake and it may seem more interesting to others, I am a huge fan of the 24 hours of Le Mans, especially the mid to late 60’s races, but I cant foresee being able to make space for a 24 hour race on a video game, just my take on the whole thing. Best of Luck!
Perhaps the race could be broken down into modern and classic, one half of the race using the classic cars (awesome idea by the way), with the other half using modern LMP cars and GTLM machines.
The format is similar to what was used for the TORA 24 Hours of Daytona. The race is broken down into 12 two-hour stints. Each team has 3-5 drivers that participate in designated stints (i.e. Driver 1 runs stints 1, 4, 6, & 10, Driver 2 runs in stints 2, 5, 9, and 12, etc). Assignment of drivers to stints is left completely to the teams. At the end of the race, the distance traveled by each car during each stint is tabulated towards total distance driven. The car that accumulates the most distance wins.
I’ve started a thread for people to start compiling teams HERE. If you plan on racing, please let me know. I will start putting together organized test sessions soon to validate the builds. There may also be some changes to the car selection in the nest few weeks. Over the next few days I will get the builds uploaded to my sharefront. Full build information is available by registering at Virtual Vintage.
Did some GT/P2 testing last night with a couple of other drivers. The 250LM has a higher top speed and better fuel consumption than the Shelby, though only marginally.
For the sake of experimentation, I ran the Alfa 33 with a potential build (with race tires). The results were, in a word, interesting.
Yes, it is pulling a wheelie in both pictures. This one will need more work…
We will start hosting open practice sessions in the coming weeks to aid in car selection. Tentative field caps will be as follows for the following cars:
P
Ferrari 330P4 - 3
Ford GT40 - 3
P2/GT
Alfa Stradale - 2
Corvette 427 - 1
Corvette C2 Grand Sport FF - 1
Corvette ZR1 '70 - 1
Ferrari 250LM - 2
Ferrari 250 GTO - 1
Shelby Daytona Coupe - 2
P3/GT2
Alfa TZ2 - 2
Aston DB5 - 1
Ferrari Dino - 2
Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta - 1
Lotus Elan - 1
Renault Alpine - 2
After doing some testing, I’ve decided that I will likely be narrowing the field to only 2 classes. and juggling a couple of cars around. I’m trying to leave some room for any eligible Porsches that may come along…
