Unused forum feature

I’ve been sticking around for 2 years now and not a single time I used the notifications button. Why? Well, because I never have notifications.

What exactly is the purpose of this feature, if it doesn’t do anything? Is it there just because, or is it just an unfinished project? And why does it stay unused?

This feature has a lot of potential, just look at Google+ or YouTube. Notifications for comment replies, comment likes and what not. Surely something like this can be integrated here too. That’s what that notification button is for, right?

I don’t think it has ever worked.

The forum switched designs in 2013 and I don’t remember it working at any point.

Personally I think the forum could do with 1 or 2 more features, embeddable YouTube videos and Tweets for example.

I agree. So is there a way to get notified about a reply on your thread or a reply / like on a thread that you’ve posted to. What does tagging a topic as favourite do?
