A number of games across genres (from Call of Duty to Dragon Ball FighterZ & others) have long lists of uniquely titled “calling cards” (or “player cards”) to optionally unlock that display as graphical user flair everywhere gamertags are shown in-game (in multiplayer lobbies, on leaderboards, etc.).
Calling cards are typically unlocked from completing in-game tasks/challenges, like medals for mini-achievements, such as: “win 10 matches,” “complete 100 online matches,” “get 50 victories using this character/item,” etc. - and players can select among their list of unlocked cards to publicly display in-game with their gamertag.
The concept seems like it would be a good fit for this this game too:
“get on the podium 10/50/100 times in a Ford,” “finish 10/50/100 multiplayer races without any penalties,” “complete 10/100/1000 clean laps in a Lamborghini,” “own 5/25/50 cars that are level 50,” “set a lap time in the top 1%/5%/10% on any leaderboard in any front-wheel-drive car,” “install your own custom tuning setup on 10/50/100 cars,” etc.
This would give players a lot more things to do, provide some personalization, and encourage players to explore a bigger variety of in-game activities in pursuit of unlocking calling cards.
The Forza Horizon series & prior Forza Motorsport installments have unlockable “badges” that work the same way, but player cards are a bit bigger & more flashy/expressive.
It would be even better if new themed events (like November’s NASCAR month) included new themed calling cards to unlock (as long as they could still be unlocked later after the event ends - no FOMO).
To illustrate, here’s an example of a CoD calling card selection screen I grabbed from an online search:
