Under steer in awd cars/trucks

i am using my impreza a lot and the under steer seems to be terible. is there a tune i should do to it to fix it or is there some sort of driving technique i should be unsing to combat this issue?

Depends where the understeer is happening i.e. Corner entry, Mid Corner, Corner Exit. A couple of things I can suggest are lowering the front Arbs as they tend to start off pretty stiff on AWD cars. My starting values are usually between 8-14.

Try lowering rear deceleration to about 10% to begin with. This controls how the car responds off throttle during a corner. Lower % if car is still under steering or raise % if you’re finding the car wanting to break loose when off throttle. Seeing as most of the weight is over the front of the car, you can tend to get away with lower % values. You may need to raise the Deceleration on cars with more weight over the rear. Most Porsches are a prime example of this.

Again, without knowing exactly where the understeer is happening, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly how best to approach the issue (adjusting springs, dampers, brake balance and differential can all have an effect on understeer/oversteer but being too extreme on changing values can upset the balance of the car and cause further issues if you’re changing too much all at once.)

There are many great guides on the Forums that offer superb explanations of all aspects of the tuning process.

Very handy guide by GTR Caesars Wrath. Includes a calculator but am yet to try this one. There have been many good things said about it though:

Another great guide by DL Tuning. Comes with a handy ‘fix guide’ and suspension calculator. Have tried the calculator on a few RWD cars and it gives a very handy base tune indeed:

And this was the original guide I used when first attempting to tune, created by Worm. It says FM6 but the walk through of each tuning aspect is universal to all Forza titles. Hope this helps

With this car you’ll probably require softer ARB in the front.

When it comes to driving technique, lots of trail braking and brake bias to the rear, I guess?

In an AWD car you can just mash the throttle on corner exit so don’t do it too early. A WRX doesn’t have a whole lot of power even when fully upgraded (if you don’t do the SINFUL swap, that is) so you can move torque split rearwards with some impunity.

for race springs use 60 as your rear arb setting and 15-20 for the front. Also for most cars use 20psi front and 50psi rear, hypercars are sometimes reverse of this to get even temps front and back.
