Correcting Understeer

Is there a way I can tune a awd car and correct Understeer if there is any? Thank you.

Sounds like differential needs to be adjusted. If it’s during acceleration, reduce front accel. If its when slowing down, reduce front decel or increase rear decel.

Take a look at this chart, it is very helpful.

So you say you want to correct understeer. Ok, can you please provide more information so we can get to the bottom of the issue?

It might be a differential issue, it my have to do with your springs or anti roll bars, it may be a damping setting, it could even be your ride height. Under which driving conditions do you find the understeer most prevalent?

Also, if it’s under acceleration you don’t necessarily need to reduce front accel. For the AWD, try the following values in your differential -
FA: (33 - 50)
FD: (0-5)
RA: (60-75)
RD: (10-15)
T: (55-65)

Fixing understeer isn’t just about differential settings. However more power to the rear, using a race differential will allow you to edit it more thoroughly. Its also about the roll bars, decreasing front roll bars (to a point) will help with transitional understeer. Transitioning meaning the car leaning in corners. Springs have a small effect and the rebound stiffness or softness will also affect it. The front should be softer than the rear, allowing it to be free from too much pressure and weight. Hope that helps a bit.

that tuning link PPiDrive posted up is so invaluable. I have them saved to my phone so I can constantly check it while I drive and tune my cars.

posting it again for emphasis

Usually, in Horizon 2, I start with even ride height, even springs, full rebound and zero bump on the shocks, and an even anti-sway bar at about 13 or so. I then start to tune the car starting with my springs, then follow up with my shocks. Last thing I ever change is my toe and camber settings. And this is with a FWD, RWD, AWD, Mid-engine, Rear-engine, Front engine, it doesn’t matter. Honestly though, I usually put about 100 miles on the car, easily before I’m happy with them.

But start with something like that, I started with Meowmobile’s “quick and dirty tune” for my cars and adjust from there to suit me.

honestly his thread, http://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst23049_Meowmobiles--Full-Open-Source---61-Cars.aspx, needs to be stickied.

but now I usually start with say:
-6 camber both front and rear
0’d out Toe
7 degree camber

12-14 front and rear anti-sway bars - key is having them be the same (numbers don’t change on each car)
springs even, and about at the middle (this changes per car)
rebound - full
bump - zero
ride height - even at about 7 inches or so.
aero - lowest on both. I don’t tune the aero until LAST and that changes per style of racing I’m going into. Big sweepers - low aero keep the top end, tight and technical - high aero for grip
brakes - 60% front, I believe in the game it bases it on the rear, so it’d be 40% rear in that case
differential - what Meow recommends depending on the type of car. Hasn’t steered me wrong yet.

basically, the problem of “understeer” could be any number of things. The key is to correct each thing, one at a time, and DRIVE the car, like seriously, 5 laps minimum on a circuit before you change anything else again.

Thanks for the shoutout.

happily man. Your tunes and tips helped bring my “real world” experience and translate it right into this video game. Honestly it was priceless to me because I was getting quite frustrated before I found them lol
