tuning & upgrades

Is there really a point in having an Open LB if my A class Civic cant make it up to X class? An expansion of the Homologation rules would probably be a perfect cure for all. As currently constructed, most of the available upgrades are pointless. There are 3- 4 motor swaps, a supercharger and turbo available but none of them cant be used because most will give you too much power. (the same could be said with other upgrades) If they cant be used to race or hot lap competitively then there’s really no point to having them… (That’s room that could be saved for more tracks or other cars I guess). I would really like to see them expand the parameters of the Homologation or add the classic A,B,C type classes back and have two options of available game play.

It isn’t homogenization that’s the problem, it’s homogenization only that’s the problem. It makes one part of the game easy to play at the expense of so much else.

Homologation isn’t the real problem here. It’s the fact that each car is locked in its division and can’t be tuned to compete under different homologations.

If you look at the homologations in isolation (irrespective of the car division) then there are scores of cars that could be upgraded or even downgraded to compete. The fact that currently we can’t lift a car out of one division to race in another is where things are failing.

If they simply chose one homologation towards the top of each class in terms of PI then allowed cars from any division to be used then we’d be close enough to the old class to run MP and rivals. In short, we need every car to be assigned a division and also be allowed to race in open events. Except the limo of course, and SUVs, and trucks, Oh! and the Merc semi. You know where I’m coming from Mr Wrecking Ball …

I agree with this, but then again, isn’t your suggestion basically the class (E-X) based system with a different name?

Turn10 should just add back in the E-X rivals/hoppers and I think that would please everyone. Homologation would still be there when people wanted that experience, and the class based system would be there when people want that experience. Wow, choice is good. Whooda thunk it.

You don’t seem to understand, the divisions are not arbitrary, the cars are placed in them according to their characteristics, like a Porsche 962 is indeed an Early Prototype Racer, much like the VW Beetle is a Major Micro. It doesn’t make sense to pick a Honda Civic and allow it to compete in Sport Touring, as it isn’t even remotely related to any of the cars in that group.

A better idea would be to create stages within divisions, but then much of the point of the system would be lost, because the restrictions seem to respect the cars’ original quirks. If you add a Nascar engine, Race tires and rollcage to an old Mustang as well as converting it to AWD, the only thing that remains of this Mustang is the name. Seriously, one just has to look at the Hoonicorn to realize this! The only reason it even gets called a “Mustang” is because it looks like one.

Under the old system, all the upgraded cars were basically “Hoonicorns” and “Ice Chargers”.

Does it bother anybody that upgrades are pointless now due to the homologation system?

Im so disapointed in this game because of this. I’ve heard that Grand Turismo had same issue but they released an update that removed the restriction from racing with tuned cars.
I was so hyped by the graphics and even that my car was in the game, started tuning in like hell to only realize that i cant compete with it.

Yes, I can’t believe they did that. Half the fun was upgrading cars to race outside of their class.

Old thread…

I was a bit annoyed when I upgraded from FM6 to FM7, but it really isn’t that bad. It’s a bit more challenging, but you can often still do upgrades. Start with a stock car and upgrade as you see fit.
Sometimes you have a little PI head room and, after a test run, you realize you can get what you really want with nothing more than race diff (no PI hit) or sway bar upgrades (often very little cost). Or add heavier wheels and/or cage for weight to bring PI down. But then you realize it’s often much faster without the weight and upgrades it gets you. So it’s just a different challenge.

That said, I wish they had included some “old school” class races in the career mode, particularly when online is so completely broken (at least if you just want to race). They could then keep the range of variety to encourage people out of their comfort zones and most importantly get rid of that foolishness with racing “modern off-road” and side-by-sides racing on a circuit track. Who thought that was worth including in a circuit track focused game? And car bowling? Whoever came up with that needs to be looking for a new job. And we are often told how “expensive” it is to add cars to the game, so we can’t have this or that very reasonable car added, but they waste that much on including a minivan and other cars most of us never want to see (a DONK? Really!!!). The only value they seem to have is to provide some silly shows with crazy upgrades in online races. Why? And if they would focus on fixing online playability instead of drift and drag (and I even like the latter, but again, why???). That schizo unfocused approach to their “brand” and marginalizing of their core customer base is ultimately why I’ll likely be going to a different franchise soon, but the biggest problem is certainly NOT the homologation…
