Tuning For Weekly Racing Series-S39

wow Moss your changes are really good. it feels better in turn in and entrys. i saved my replay that you can see what gearings i used, last lap i used the right gearings in my opinion.

made the changes and will be testing more throughout the day. I have been about a half second faster with TCS on. The tune I posted first was for use with TCS. Havent decided if I am going to run with it or not yet.

good lap sch1wo. I was hoping to see you hit a 39 on that last lap. I don’t know how you go so fast.

Yes if a tune is tuned without tcs it will be beast if you are use it with tcs  because the differential settings will keep your power in and out of corners if you are push the throttle and stay on throttle dont know if you can follow me what i am saying…^^ i was also looking forward for a 39, but it is absolutely possible.

Tried to watch your lap sch1wo and it won’t load. What am I doing wrong?

I think it wont load if you are using it on your mobile but i dont know if you tried it with mobile or with pc.

Qualifying video is up. Here is the link:

Race was crazy. I had a bad first half of it. Ran some good laps at the end. I’ll get the video up tomorrow night. See you guys at Bathurst. It’s one of my least favorite tracks on the game. Hopefully after this week I will be a little faster there. Crash, work some magic on those gears buddy!

I like 3.32//2.43/1.86/1.50/1.26/1.07/0.95 for Bathurst. Third may still be a little too short.

I still haven’t gotten much time in it but this is my LB test tune for RA/Bathurst with Bathurst gears. I’m allays faster with power at Bathurst when hotlapping but I always finish higher with faster lap times with grip in a lobby. You may want a qualify no TCS tune and gripper TCS ON race tune. It might need a little more camber but I found I could drive it TCS OFF with less. I typically like ā€œMOREā€ camber at RA - go figure???

Test Mule:
28/28
3.32//2.43/1.86/1.50/1.26/1.07/0.95 (Bathurst)
-2.5/-1.8, 0.0/-0.2, 5.7
11.03/10.05
768.2/654.0, 4.9/3.2
12.1/11.2, 2.6/2.2
185/261
51/135
12/10

Looking forward to the race video,
Crash

EDIT 3.32//2.02/1.65/1.37/1.23/1.11/1.01 with full aero and splits into the mid 10s. Using all 6 gears.

EDIT II 33.2//2.43/1.92/1.57/1.31/1.13/1.01 Seams a little faster on the straits with a 5 speed. Responded well to camber + a few brake/diff tweaks to keep the tail in line. I think it could use some stiffer springs and possibly even less ARB but my quick fiddle mucked up the balance.

Mid 9s with the highlighted changes:
28/28
33.2//2.43/1.92/1.57/1.31/1.13/1.01
-3.5/-2.8, 0.0/-0.2, 5.7
11.03/10.05
768.2/654.0, 4.9/3.2
12.1/11.2, 2.6/2.2
309/435
48/135
14/12

EDIT III Full circle! Back to min aero and 3.32//2.43/1.86/1.50/1.26/1.07/0.95 with the highlighted minor tweaks. I tried it with TCS and really didn’t like it all that much but at some point when I was too busy complaining about the TCS I managed to crack off a dirty 8.5. I can pretty much run the same times with min/middle/max aero but I like min better and as strange as it may seem, tend to be more consistent, faster, and cleaner with the min setting. I also tried the Stiggles, Snake, & SCH1WO/Moss setups with my gearing and did similar but I didn’t like any of them with low aero setting.

Fastest = EDIT III (but check out the damage on the replay!) Kissed a few walls in the 10 lap run LOL.
Easiest to run a Clean line, stays off the walls = Snake (might be 0.3s slower on average)
Favorite = SCH1WO/Moss (but I do tend to loose either the front or rear at times)

Hope you enjoy. Going to be an interesting week. I do not know Bathurst very well.

thanks crash, looking forward to getting some laps in tonight. i think i would rather stick with 5 gears if all things are pretty equal.

interesting about you running the same with all aero settings. i can usually tell a pretty big difference. i think because i roll through the corners too much.

i noticed your rebound is higher than the other tunes. i do not have a good feel for when to raise or lower rebound. maybe someone could give me some tips. i know what it does but have trouble feeling what is better. for me it seemed that a lower rebound helped with grip on the curbs at bugatti. with the elevation changes at bathurst i am not sure what would be best. i guess higher would allow the tires to drop back to the surface faster but would it hurt grip in other areas?

Sorry Snake - neither do I. I’ve given up and just set the springs/dampers/bars as one unit based on weight. I think that is why the full aero is messing up my tune. Flavor of the month is to set rebound to a damping ratio of 0.7 and bump to 0.15 splitting font/rear with weight distribution. This seems to keep front/rear natural&damped frequencies matched so the car doesn’t do anything weird. Then I lower the spring rate to compensate for the amount of ARB. If I’m running say 10 then I lower the spring rate by 1/4. I start with a spring rate that puts rebound in the 12 range so I have a little tuning room. If it handles the jump and slaloming across the drainage ditch at the tests track I don’t mess with it. Sometimes it works and it is very easy to use either ride height or ARB split to balance the car other times not so much . Loose on entry add few more clicks of front bump and rear rebound. Loose off a few less cicks of rear bump and front rebound to speed up the weight transfer. Or is it more rear bump and less front rebound to jack up the CG? I usually try both. Rear bouncing on curbs - a little less bump. But really I’m just throwing darts and logging laps.

I did run across a thesis titled ā€œAn Investigation into the Damping of a V8 Supercarā€ a few months ago but forza doesn’t have low/high speed dampers. Buried in the thesis is a statement that the state of the art simulation under estimates damping. Could that be why forza favors such low bump settings?? Then again what is ā€œ12ā€ damping? Math seems to work if I use 1200 but that ignores suspension details. The average of 0.7 and 0.15 is 0.45 and in the same ballpark as the thesis. At least it was for a V8 supercar LOL.

Crash

ok. after testing some tonight I was able to run a 7.3 in the tune listed below. I did use traction while testing this tune (I know, traction is for wimps).
my initial settings for Bathurst.

28.5/28.5
3.35,2.30,1.82,1.46,1.18,0.98,0.85
-3.6/-3.4
0/0
5.5
14.03/12.45
830.7/734.7
4.9/3.2
10.6/9.5
2.7/2.6
185/261
50/135
15/11

don’t worry moss, I will try with some toe tomorrow  I also plan to do some more testing with mid and max aero.

crash, I ran your tune and was able to get mid 08’s with it. will give it a go again now that I know the track a little better. also want to try your settings w/o aero.

Snake - Gave your car a workout this evening. I can see why you like it, definitely rolls through the corner well when you get the entry correct. It holds my new LB time but that my have been the only clean lap I ran. It is just a little bit above my skill level and I struggled to follow my line. I think I’ve gotten too familiar with my car and I am leading with the steering and over compensating for poor turn in that your car just doesn’t have. It just felt like I was was making a suggestion and not actually controlling the car. It is just depressing because I can tell it is capable of a mid 6 If I could just stop getting in too early.

You were destroying me on turn one gaining 2-3 car length to start the strait. With my slow entry the 0.98/0.85 5th&6th weren’t working for me. I was defiantly faster at the end of the front and back straits with 1.03/0.94 and able to close the gap. I know it has a 6 in it because on a few occasions I did manage to pass you at the top of the hill only to watch you run away on the technical down hill section.

I did experiment with trying to turn up the responsiveness without messing anything up. I never got any faster but I did stay off the walls a little easier with some more spring and matched dampers. Overall response and feel should be similar just a little quicker with the following:
Springs 940.9/831.0
Rebound 11.4/10.0
Bump 2.8/2.8

Crash

I tried your changes and it ran well. I could get into the 7’s with it. to me it felt like it lost some grip. I think it might have been too stiff for me. Felt like it was very stable on exit and easy to control. I did turn in a bit early sometimes but got used to it.

As for the gears I was trying to shift into the next gear at about 6k in the lower gears and 6500 into 6th. Might need to close them up like you suggested and lengthen the first 3 gears.

It probably was loosing grip, it might need less camber to go with the increase in stiffness but in the end it is probably just not letting the tires follow the track. Stick with what is working for you, I was running 8 flats two days ago and haven’t seen under 10 since I started changing up the cars. Experimenting at this point may be counter productive.

As for the gears I think you meant 7k and 7500. I checked your replay and we are shifting the same except I might be more 7600 than 7500. I think a shorter 5th/6th would be worth a free 0.1-0.2 sec based on how I’m getting down the strait.

With the 0.98/0.85 gears:
You:
Front strait start 100 kph, finish 263 kph @ ~7000 RPM
Back strait start ~86 kph, 275 under the sign in 5th, finish 291 @ 6700 RPM

Me: (max front/min rear aero on your settings)
Front strait start 94 kph finish 260 kph @ ~7000 RPM
Back strait start 84 kph, 274 under the sign in 5th, finish 288

With 1.05/.95 5th/6th gears
Front strait start 94 kph finish, 263 kph @ 7600 RPM
Back strait start 84 kph, 273 under the sign but already in 6th, finish 293 @ 7600 RPM
You have a 2 kph head start but I’m getting to 291 before the rise and hitting 293 cresting.

Lower gears all felt fine and with the lower gears I suspect any tuning for a specific corner will likely hurt some other corner. With your higher apex speeds you might need 1.04/0.94 to keep off the rev-limiter.

Good luck,
Crash

for bathurst try maximal aero in front and minimal aero in rear.

2 months ago there was a rivals challenge around bathurst in stock v8 cars, just tuning. and i noticed that without rear aero is the max time possible. speed is important on this track.

sch1wo, thanks for the tip. I tried it and picked up more than half a second.

@ Snake and rest of pit crew - not sure if you want to try something else, yet, here is a combined tune I made with another build/tune I had for this car. Tested tonight and fared well fro my driving capabilities/preferences.

28/28
Gearing - used same as yours
-3.3 / -3.3
+0.1 / -0.1
5.0
32 / 24
600 / 450.3
4.9 / 3.2
11.1 / 9.9
2.1 / 1.9
309 / 363 (also tested min rear aero, yet, too tail happy for my preference…however, had better ā€œdirtyā€ times with min)
50 / 135
15 / 10

Check it out if you get a chance.
…

PRKid - I was hoping you would get something up. This is my favorite tune! Snake - this one is worth a few laps. With my diff/brakes it was the most consistent but I wasn’t used to pushing with the extra grip so my times were a little bit slow but I’m confident with some more laps I could have been into the low 7’s. I accidentally forgot o adjust the tire pressures and it ran just fine with 30/30 but 28.5 seems to be the optimum number on this track on the other cars so I ended up with 28.5. It was very subtle but I did notice a slight difference between 28, 28.5,& 29 on my car. I was experimenting with less spring and more bar and based on driving this I’m thinking I didn’t go far enough.

I tried to get it to work with the max/min aero setting by using some of the tricks I used on mine but the more I messed with it the worse it got. I wonder if reducing front and rear together is the key for this setup?

Thanks for sharing this sweet setup,
Crash

I am done with this TRACK… Twice I’ve run a 6.99 only to cut the LAST corner AHHHHHHHHH! I’m going back to Road America.

Final Bathurst Tune tweaked to my driving style:
28.5/28.5
3.32//2.30/1.82/1.50/1.24/1.07/0.94 (using 1st & TCS out of the Cutting)
-3.5/-2.8, 0.0/-0.2, 5.7
11.73/9.55 (11.93/9.35 with +0.1/-0.2 toe)
781.7/640.0, 4.9/3.2
11.4/11.2, 2.4/2.3
309/261
46/135 (I like this on all the tunes)
17/14 (I like this on all the tunes)

@Snake - I really like these gears with the max/min aero settings hitting 297 kmh at the end of the back strait. The rest of the tune was just tweaks specific to the way I was taking individual corners and it doesn’t drive that much different than the one you already tried so don’t waist any valuable practice laps on it. I just posted it so I don’t lose it once I start tuning for other tracks.

Crash

prkid, thanks for the tune, it is solid. I can run right with my ghost but am more consistent. I think the lower springs are giving it more grip. very impressive. im going to see if I can work some magic on my tune with some of what you did. if not then I will might just run this one.
