Here is a few tips I go by when Tuning for a Rivals session

1.Do you want to be #1? If Yes* then go to the leaderboards and see what the top players are using; your choice in cars may be limited to 1 or 2 cars.
*If No have fun, and don’t get upset when your choice does not perform to your expectations and do not make excuses.

  1. Find someone in the top 10 in the world that has a downloadable tune to get and idea of whats needed stat wise to compete. Experimentation is not a bad thing, just don’t get carried away from the reference. A lot of times I can build a car that’s lighter and a few more points of HP than the reference while having the same or better stats as the reference car.

  2. What makes a Leaderboard car is 3 stats Handling,Acceleration, and Braking power. People really over look the braking stat when building their cars and wonder why their choice of car has the same stats from Speed,Handling, and Acceleration cannot compete as well, its because of the brakes.

  3. Its better to build and tune your car to your driving style( if able, if not download a top tune for that track). I do this, because learning someone else’s driving style may not make sense to you and puts you at a disadvantage as to how the car controls ( you can message the person who tuned it, but don’t expect them to reply back. I will always try to reply back if its my tune).

  4. Turn on the track limits Ribbon or Markers. I use Ribbon personally, but what ever works for you. I use this tool to see how far I can push the car outside the track limits for maximum speed in and out of the corner.

  5. Learn how to Engine Brake. On top of having good brakes Engine Braking can make it 10 times better. This is why my tunes have weak brake pressure in them so I can maximize this technique. To do an Engine Brake hit the brakes with light pressure on the trigger or pedal while at the same time going down 1 or 2 gears this depends on the track to have the best braking power. Practice is key with Engine Braking if you use to much pressure you can lock the front or rear tires and that will heat the tire up, this will result in overshooting the corner or loosing control of the car.

  6. Watch replays of the top drivers. I do this to see a few things. Are they using the stock motor(By sound) or transmission? Do they use Aero? If so front, back or both? Did they use a roll cage?(Normally you can see it thought the back window. If not look at the weight of their build, it will be heavier by 60 to 100 pounds.) Finally I watch what lines they take through the track, what gear their in, and their general speed( For tuning the Aero).

  7. Set up a Ghost that is slightly faster than you after your first session. This tip is for beginners to hot lapping, manly to see were you are slow on the track so you can improve that section and then find a faster ghost afterward. I do not use a Ghost because, it distracts me and I know whenI’m slow through a section (You will gain this ability over time).

  8. Use and tune for Normal steering 98% of the top drivers use it. I use and tune for Simulation Steering manly because, that’s what I like using and that goes back to your style of driving. Do what is best for your style of driving.

  9. Depending on the track or car see if the top drivers are using TCS, or ABS their is a reason for this choice. Do not turn this into a pride issue; do what is fast.

  10. Use brake lines or suggested race line if you have to. I drive hardcore so I don’t know what these things are, but I do know top drivers use the braking line.

  11. Setting your Dead Zones to be reactive to your reflexes, this can save hundreds of a second if set correctly. Do not over do the Dead Zones on steering, this will cause unwanted car drift.

  12. PRACTICE A LOT!!! Good Luck and Have Fun.
