Traffic Cars

As i disclosed elsewhere, news about the game being set in Japan were perfectly timed to me as I just went back from vacation there, after 2 weeks going around including Tokyo and Hakone, so I’m really looking forward to FH6, more than any other Horizon game to date, for sure, but as people focus on the car list, the map, the customization options, music…don’t get me wrong, important and key things that I really care a lot about, but there’s one big detail to be also taken into account for properly capturing the location properly, which I hope it’s being taken care of, since as stated they want to do true justice to the location…the traffic cars.

Seems like something trivial at first, but after being there for all those days in person, I can say they are part of the whole experience, it’s a vibe of their own, with all the unique cars you (mostly) only get to see there, and the default traffic we had since FH2, the Fiesta-Bora-Legacy pack is simply not fitting in any way. In fact, I managed to only spot a single Fiesta…it was also the only Ford in fact I spotted in 14 days. I spotted literally 3 times more Ferraris. (And don’t get me started on the traffic Golf 3…oldest Golf I spotted was a 6th gen) So, they were not so common back on its day to start with, but now those traffic cars are also really dated, about 15-20 years old, and in Japan is absolutely not the norm at all, since due to many reasons including the infamous shaken inspections, cars older than 5 years are rarer to see than in most countries (As an example, couldn’t find a Prius older than a 3rd gen, sometimes a gem from the 80’s/90’s would appear, but besides special places and events, seeing them in traffic is a real challenge)

A good start for a custom traffic set would be something like this:

-Toyota JPN Taxi / Crown Confort Taxi (Depending on the area maybe)
-Toyota Sienta
-Nissan Note 3rd Gen
-Toyota Prius 5th Gen
-Daihatsu Move Canbus
-Nissan NV100 Clipper
-Toyota Voxy/Alphard
-Daihatsu Taft
-Mitsubishi Delica
-Toyota Probox
-Suzuki Hustler

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, some of the most common cars I saw, and we’re still missing buses and trucks for example. This effort was made back on FH1, when you could find the Corollas, Explorers, and more roaming around, and if one game/map deserves that attention again, is definitely this one. Obviously at this point it would be too late to change anything, as this requires time to license, to create, and more, so whatever is done and ready for the traffic, is set for good, so I can only hope they tried a bit at least…again, it’s not like the game is ruined or something, but the experience will be definitely halted, will not truly feel like being there, and that’s also true at the same time, but I’m afraid I can’t expect surprises on this regard…Will be glad to be proven wrong here!

Japan is literally my neighbor, and I live in the Far East of Russia. Thanks to massive imports, Japanese cars are as commonplace for me as they are for people in Japan. This firsthand experience makes me 80% confident in which cars are truly essential for the in-game traffic and car roster

Yeah, I’m quite aware of how many imports end up there, massive amounts for sure.

Definitely agree on the HiAce (Can’t believe I forgot about it, it’s on every street!) and the Nissan AD mostly…really hard to narrow the list to just 10 cars for example.

Nissan AD, Toyota Caldina, Honda Parner

You need to choose one.
Caldina is out of the question right away, because you can add the gaming GT-T and GT-Four N-Edition, leaving only the AD and Honda. You can also choose the Mix, the old AD, and the new Partner.

I want to think the worst case scenario would be using recycled cars all over again, including some of the ones I spot there, but trying to focus on what should be there…something like this as a starter pack to name a few:

2011 Honda CR-Z
2009 Honda Fit
2011 Lexus CT200h
2011 Nissan Micra

But still, same issue, those cars can be seen on the street, but they are far from fresh and are a bit rare now…still, better than the usual pack at least.

I just want to be able to drive the traffic cars this time around.

I would drive the list I wrote before any day of the week of course, so it would be a win-win, interesting cars to drive, tune, paint and capture, and great for filling the traffic.

A little off topic maybe but I also hope the AI traffic is restricted to only towns, cities and highways or main roads. I dont want to have to dodge traffic in the mountains. They did good in FH5 having no traffic on the mountain but then have traffic in the rally expansion mountain road. Its way more annoying than it is immersive.

And I hope they have a traffic slider like carx street where you can set the traffic from none , low, normal and heavy traffic

That’s kind of a doubled edge sword right there, I’m the first one who would love to have a peaceful go up and down the mountains just focusing on the driving, but I can confirm part of the experience is dodging traffic…

We were walking down this mountain road in northern Kyoto, and many signs asked drivers to keep their side, since lanes were not painted, but still, it was a two-way road…imagine encountering this fella:

On parts like these:

A bit of a mayhem it was from time to time.

And wait, that’s a full-sized bus. This is the final boss, the one that runs up and down the mountain, more friendly sized yes, but these drivers know the road very well, and trust me, they do a run for the money. Record times every single time. In fact, I wouldn’t mind having one of these as a playable vehicle, and I’m dead serious, it was real fun riding it.

So yes, peaceful is definitely an option I would like, but…realistic is a challenge for sure too. And here’s how both things can be real at the same time:

There, just select what you want. Or worst case scenario, let them be ghosts at least so you don’t crash into them, but having to choose just one option is like choosing what leg you want to keep, both are definitely good depending on what you want.

I love all the pics you shown and the explanation behind all of those just making me even more excited  I absolutely agree with you . There are times I don’t want traffic, then there times I do want heavy traffic for realism , cruising in traffic having turn signals/hazard lights, 900 steering wheel degree etc for that extra realism .

Like you brought up even having the traffic ghost would be a nice feature too . It would definitely add more Replayability . I honestly have a lot of faith in them , especially with how forza made Fujimi kaido . Even in the teaser trailer the assets and graphics are very similar to Motorsport

Thanks! And that’s why is so crucial for me having all the details right, and that leads me back to square one…I can picture the views, the roads, the buildings…they definitely nailed the new Fujimi Kaido, so I know they can do it right with a big map, I’m confident, but…again, the traffic.

I want this: (just for the record, it was half kei cars and half ‘normal’ cars with white plates, a lot of variety, but the one you expect in Japan)

…not this. This is the ultimate vibe-killer. Please don’t.

Again, they made the effort in the very first game, so I’m not asking for something that cannot be done or they can’t achieve, having the FH2-FH5 traffic will feel like cutting corners, and hey…this is a car game, so if you don’t get the traffic right on what should be the ultimate Horizon yet, FH1 will still win on that regard, which would be a wasted chance for nailing ALL the details, just look at the first pic, it works as a whole, without the proper cars, it’s like having the Eiffel Tower in Tokyo instead of the Tokyo Tower (and I know the history behind the later, so I think for the sake of comparison works even better) it should work, but doesn’t. It doesn’t belong there, it needs the actual thing.

I’m hoping for mostly new cars but I think a few good returning cars from motorsport 4 would be:

2010 Honda Fit
2011 Mazda 2 (rebadged as a Demio or just debadged)
2005 Mazda Axela
2013 Lexus GS350
2011 Nissan Leaf
2011 Nissan Micra (rebadged as a March or just debadged)
2011 Toyota Prius
2008 Toyota Yaris S (Rebadged as a Vitz or just debadged)

Maybe also the 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser from horizon 1
the 2003 subaru legacy and 2010 mazdaspeed 3 would probably be the only reuseable traffic cars from horizon 5’s list. (they could probably get away with reusing the box truck and tour bus, although that’d be lame)

Yup, definitely a good list, I would also include the CR-Z I posted earlier for example (even though I only spotted one in the open) but it’s a great filler list, at the same time though, they are on the ‘older’ side of things here, so some current cars are needed for sure. Even if at this point is just 4 or 5 cars, that’s all they need, otherwise will feel like Japan 10 years ago…but at least would feel like Japan. (3 Kei cars and 2 ‘regular’ modern cars, c’mon! That’s it)

This scenario is again 1000 times better than just using the same traffic all over again, not the best, not the worst. Bearable at the very least.

Commercial Wagon you only need Toyota Probox.

I never saw this LiteAce in japan.

Car list from “Times car share” rental are the common car in japan.

Given Horizon 1 is the only Horizon game to date to feature traffic cars that were never drivable in prior Forza games, I imagine every traffic car in Horizon 6 is either going to be a low-level detail version of a car drivable in past games, a low-level detail version of a car drivable for the first time in Horizon 6, or an unlicensed Playground lorry and/or bus.

This is exactly my view, a mix of all 3 types. Honestly the lorry-truck/bus thing deserves something a bit more unique, the usual Iveco inspired one is not really fitting, and meanwhile, Hino trucks were a sight of their own, especially on certain trims, they just fit right in:

But if they do add enough new cars to the franchise to add as traffic versions, keeping the list fresh enough, and add to the mix the already discussed older cars (CR-Z, Prius and more) it would be more than enough for me, that’s for sure.

So…good news first. The FH2 traffic extravaganza seems done at last…but for now at least, I spot too many kei trucks and Honda Beats in the traffic. Hopefully time will tell, but hey, first step is done. Goodbye FH2 traffic, you will be NOT missed.
