Top 32 Formula Drift Style Tournament Mode

I’m writing this to suggest a new competitive structure for the next Horizon. While Drift Zones and Open Drifting are great, the community is missing a true, competitive Top 32 Tandem Tournament mode—similar to the real-world Formula Drift (FD) format.

Here is how the mode would work:

Phase 1: Qualifying

• Solo Runs: Each player performs a solo run to get a seed.

• Scoring Criteria: Instead of just total points, scores should be based on Line (hitting clipping points/zones), Angle (how sideways the car is), and Style (fluidity and commitment).

• Seeding: The top 32 drivers are placed into a standard knockout bracket based on their scores.

Phase 2: Tandem Battles

This is the core of the experience. Two drivers face off in a head-to-head battle consisting of two runs:

• The Lead Run: The driver in front focuses on the “perfect line” at maximum speed and angle.

• The Chase Run: The driver behind must mimic the lead car’s movements. The goal here is proximity—staying as close to the lead car’s door as possible without making contact or causing a collision.

Phase 3: Judging and Progression

• The Comparison: After both runs are finished, the game compares who had the better overall performance across both the lead and chase positions.

• Advancement: The winner moves up the bracket; the loser is eliminated.

• One More Time (OMT): If the scores are within a certain margin, the game triggers a “One More Time,” forcing a tie-breaker round.

• Incompletes: Automatic zeros for spinning out, straightening (understeering), or going off-track.

Why This Fits Forza Horizon

Currently, drifting in Horizon is mostly a solo high-score chase, even when you’re in a convoy. A Top 32 mode would:

1. Build Community: Give clubs and competitive players a structured way to compete in-game.

2. Depth of Tuning: It would encourage players to build specific tunes optimized for “leading” or “chasing” rather than just generic high-point builds.

3. Content Creation: This format is highly “watchable” and would be perfect for creators sharing clips or streaming tournaments.

  1. Forza finally in Japan and this would be perfect for it
  2. We really do need more drift modes besides drift zones

Implementing a formal tandem tournament system would take the drifting mechanics already in the game and give them a professional, competitive purpose that the community has been asking for.

I personally have nothing with drifting but i do see how this could be of use for that side of the playerbase! That said, i’m doubting whether this proposed format can truelly be coppied 1:1 into the game.

It’s for us competitive players (on sim or controller)who want something more than just drift zones and open drift . I’m very positive they could . CarX is a indie studio and they have a proper top 32  plus it’s a big part of Japanese car culture . It’s mainstream everywhere now , but yeah Japan started it all :sign_of_the_horns::smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Fh6 needs more drift modes . Not the same 2 we been having since fh2
