So how exactly big is it in comparison to the previous Forza Horizon Series and also how exactly big is the Forza Horizon 6 map will be and when will we see the actual map of FH6?
…I was wrong about the statement I made originally.
LuculentPigeon8 set it right below.
No, they stated that Tokyo City is 5x larger than Forza Horizon 5’s Guanajuato:
Q: Will Tokyo City be featured in Forza Horizon 6’s Japan?
Yes,
Tokyo City will be featured, and it is the largest urban environment
that has ever been in a Forza Horizon game. Our Tokyo City is five times
larger than Forza Horizon 5’s Guanajuato – with multiple districts,
each featuring its own unique identity. From the suburbs and iconic
downtown streets to the docks and industrial zones, we’ve created a city
where we hope that every road, every corner and every shortcut will
be fun to drive and a delight to explore with your friends. We can’t wait for you to discover the neon lights and bustle of one of our most detailed and layered environments to date.
They don’t say how large the map is, just that it’s the largest map yet.
Thank You for the correction.
To re-calibrate: The fuzzy math suggests Guanajuato in game is around 5 to 6 miles square.
However, I find this odd given that the real city is apparently 4.7 miles square.
For the sake of the exercise lets assume 5 miles square. 5x times that is 25 miles square.
I’ve now also discovered that there is some debate to FH5’s map size.
Some sources say 42 miles square (playable)
Others suggest including out of bounds areas is 80 miles.
I’ll make a bold prediction.. I think the Japan map will use the same sky box we have for Mexico and they will push the playable boundaries out farther towards the edges of the box than they are today.
Lets assume 75 to 80 miles square for the playable area of Japan.
A city of 25 square miles will be significant in size, more than a quarter of the area of the map.
IMHO, A City that is 25 square miles is going to require a large over all map size to not dominate the entire map from every angle and give the rest of the map space and distance. So I think it stands to reason that a larger playable area will be likely to fit a city of roughly 25 miles square on it and not have it be the entire map. I’m betting we will get something more around 100 miles square.
*It might be notable to mention that some of this games competition have maps around that 100+ square mile range.
*
At any rate, I’m excited to see what they do.
Tokyo is a fairly dominant place around Mt Fuji. If you got MS Flight Sim, you should fly over it sometime. Sprawling is a wild understatement.
But we do see a lot of shots in the gameplay video that either obscure or don’t have the city in them at all. That could be just because those shots were strategically picked, but it does seem like the city is not dominating the map, which would indicate a much larger map than 5.
