Which of the two do you think is more crucial to the overall handling of the car. I feel as though tire upgrades before weight reduction would be the obvious choice. What are your thoughts?
I go with tires,everytime!
Think of it this way.
If you could reduce the cars weight by 90%, would you use wooden wheels?
I go with weight every time, unless it’s FWD. It improves every aspect of the car, and I believe it’s the most PI efficient upgrade you can get.
What I have been learning is that this game (especially for the majority of tracks, with the exception of speed tracks/long straights) is about acceleration, thus, weight first…then tires…AND, do not forget to use (at times) larger rims which help with almost ZERO PI. And, if you do so, go back to the rims jic you can get more weight out!
If you look at the change in Gs,tires always give you more Gs,more Gs more grip.
This is true, but the other benefits you get from weight reduction like better braking and acceleration make it the better overall choice.
Race tyres work for some cars but many don’t need race tyres. They can grip enough without them. Try stock or sport tyres first and see how the car handles then decide on taking those race tyres and adding more(sometimes a lot)weight.
+1
In lower classes usually weight reduction gives best laptimes but the lesser tyres will need time to warm up.
As you go higher in classes tyre upgrades become more beneficial but I would not go with a hard and fast rule.
Test each and every car. My findings suggest in b class at least weight reduction produces better lap times than tyres in most cases but not all.
I recently retuned a lot of b class cars for the no collision lobby and the only car I can remember going for tyre upgrades over weight reduction was the Cuda.
I’ll usually cut weight before adding tires, if its a lighter car to begin with i may skip the weight redux and add tires.
99% of the time I go weight first… weight improve lateral g’s, accel, decel, overall responsivness.
Tires do the same but in a much lower capacity in most cases. Yes u may get more lateral g’s but u sacrifice the overall feel of the car. In c class a light 4.4 handling car will stay with a 4.6 handling heavy car but then out Accel it thru every gear to the next corner.
Build two cars and test is the best way but most cars should be light not fat.
Weight first always. Affects accel, braking, turning. Tires may be easier, but not faster.
I always go for weight reduction first. If i cant get any compounds onto my car after that then i try to get max widths and sometimes max rim size as well to compensate!
For me it depends on the current weight and bais of weight and how much PI i have left to spend. I would normaly get weight reduction before race tyers if the car weight over 850kgs.
There is no correct answer as it all depends on the track you are trying to build for.
General rule will be weight reduction first because there are few tracks in forza that depend on pure grip.
Also you have to think about race conditions, say you have one build that runs 1.23s on Road Atlanta that is built based on grip and you have another build that runs the same lap times based on acceleration. The acceleration build has the easier task of passing on the straights while the grip build relies on carrying more speed thru corners. When cars in front of you are slower in your apex it will negate your grip advantage.
