This shoould be considered bad gearing, right?

Had some free time today, so jumped in game to check. And it looks like game takes into account power and aero in tuning menu calculation too. And if car have enough power rev limiter is the limit for calculation.

And now bunch of pictures… (tuning menu, at redline, at rev limiter)

on road top speed limited by low power

added all engine upgrades that don’t change redline, still not enough power to hit rev limiter on road

all engine upgrades with cams,

8th gear doesn’t even fit on graph, on road picture is where it was toping out

maxed out aero lowers your top speed, I’m very surprised :astonished:

PS. Now as I look on that from perspective, it looks like I was taking pictures to prove my point  Especially that RS7 with aero. Next time will try to make videos.
Anyone can remind me how to setup Nvidia overlay, so it doesn’t chop quality on YT?

Of course. About 1/3 of the tunes i had on my cars were with the “wrong” final drive, had excess gears or never reached their top speed. So it’s faire for me to assume most of these tunes weren’t actually build to accomodate a specific purpose.

If i was to think to think that, then i’m assuming said tunners put a lot of work into their tunes. For example: All the skylines r32,33.34 are very easy to tune at B class road racing… You could just build it, toss the race diff and call it a day and the tune will perform just great right off the bat. That’s not to say someone rocket scienced it and it’s 100 % my fault for not understanding the “depth” behind not moving a slider slightly more to the right.

So yea i’ll go with the most probable cause. Reputable tunners make mistakes too.

since I haven’t seen the actual tune, was it called “purist” ?

You are right. It’s certainly more the rev limiter than the redline.
But more like right before the limiter. B700 VTEC Sera as example:

243,7 km/h as of the calculation but

247/248 km/h on a flat surface and the limiter is at 252.

It also can’t be calculated in 4th because there it drops to around 236 km/h due to no-man’s-land rpm.

It’s weird.

I guess it falls into “very long gearbox underpowered car” category :person_shrugging:

There was an adjustment to the handling at some point, within the first 6 to 12 months I think, which caused previously good handling trucks & SUVs etc to literally roll over in corners. I don’t know if anything else was changed then, but I make sure to pick recent tunes rather than old ones, regardless of the number of stars they’ve got - to think FM4’s storefront made choosing tunes & paints so much easier.

So true!

Have noticed when tuning individual gears the vtec engines almost always hit the limiter short of what’s indicated in the specs.

To the OP. The gearing shown in the vid is typical for that car. Should not be considered bad at all. Always a compromise with the sport gearbox. Second gear becomes unusable if you go much lower.

Just a poor choice of car for anything but manual clutch.
