Just got the game… How do you test drive cars and how do I race alone- no other cars on the track?

Various ways.

  1. Go to career, Cars, my cars, pick one then go to tuning icon and at bottom right it should say press a button to test drive. You can tune whilst on the track in this mode.

  2. Rivals.

  3. Freeplay or private multiplayer race with no drivatars.

Like he said. You can also access the Tuning Mode test drive via the main menu.

best mode Freeplay, if you use the tuning mode you will gain no credits or LB times.

There is no way to test drive before you buy.

But I think you can “rent” a selection of cars when playing online. I’ve never done it.

Go into Free Play and you can rent any car on the entire car list to test it out before you buy.

Renting gives you a way to try driving a car, but it’ll be in its stock configuration. Rivals Spec Challenge is a good place to rent cars, as even other players’ tuned cars will be spec-limited to about what an untuned rental can do.

Starting out, you’ll be starved for Credits at first. I suggest you drive the starter cars in some Rivals or Free Play races to earn credits without facing much opposition. In Free Play you can set opponents to 0. But you might enjoy setting Collision Mode to None, Drivatar Difficulty to New Racer, and try to pick up a few medals to boost your Credits and Achievements progress.

To get a whole bunch of cars right away, check out the Car Pass. It’s more cash money - could be about what the game disc cost - but it gives you one “free” of every car in all the packs it covers - then you just need to spend credits on their upgrades.

To earn Credits faster, check out the VIP pass. Again, it’s more cash, but not as much -and it doubles the level-up bonus credits forever, making it by far the biggest credits-accelerator available.

Just buy a car and drive it. Don’t worry about renting cars, you’ll make enough money just playing.

Do Rivals mode, you make more money than you do in Free Play. I run Rivals even if I’m in a car that has no chance of beating my PB. I always have the ghost car off anyways, so you’ll be all alone out on the asphalt.

Edit: eventually you’ll have more credits than you can possibly spend. I have about 100 million. Money is not even a concern in this game.
