Terrible fps drops after update (video)

I noticed this happen to me a while ago, it would appear whenever I was tuning multiple cars in my house of the festival site (Like spending 20 mins or more), once I’d leave my house/Festival site, it was like there’s a struggle to reload all the textures of the map again and/or the other cars in multiplayer.

Sometimes it used to just happen after connecting to multiplayer when I had a lot of other apps open, the game just seemed to struggle loading other peoples cars and cause stutters/short freezes.

One thing to note is what apps you have open, I have some apps and even chrome addons, where if they are open/on, I cannot connect to anything online related in horizon 4. Things such as HiSuite (The PC suite for Huawei phones whilst your phone is connected, it stops the game from connecting to online and causes lag issues), one of the anti-tracking/ad-blocking addons for chrome seems to give me connection issues too.

You guys/girls may want to open up task manager and close as many apps as you know that don’t need to be run and see if one of them is now causing the issue (If you’re on PC, like I am).

It’s really bad since this last update. Way worse of a mess than H3 was at launch. It’s a shame really because in the four days pre-launch I ran the game for 7 hours straight completely maxed out and didn’t get one stutter or frame drop. Now it’s a stuttering mess after about 10 minutes and certain areas of the map cause such low FPS I have to stop playing. Really pathetic at this point.

Activating V-Sync has reduced the FPS drop, but sometimes still happens

I’m having the same issue, I ran the game perfectly fine at 4k 60fps for a week, but ever since the update it now refuses to go beyond 25fps, regardless of how low I set the graphics or resolution. When I first encountered this I tried updating my GPU drivers and this resolved the issue, up until today where the issue has now reappeared. Rolling back the drivers did not work, neither has reinstalling the newer drivers. And now the game won’t even launch.

Quite annoying there’s been no response over this since it makes the game unplayable.

WOW! Definitely an issue here! I have tested different display drivers and even tried reinstalling the game. No matter what, I get consistent stutters, which are easily shown in the benchmark utility for hte game. These reults also come in about 10=15 FPS lower than I was getting when the game launched, which is why I tried the driver I was running then as well as the previous AMD Adrenaline driver. The game is unplayable for me in this state. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

I’m just happy we got an official reply about this. At least now they know about it.

This is an annoying hitch, but it’s not really stopping me from playing the game yet.

How can they mess a game that is almost perfect in terms of performance? Before the 23rd update I could run the game maxed out with 2xMSAA with 60fps, now with the same settings I am constantly going down to 50fps and even on my safehouse and on menus I’m getting drops. Lol.

Oh and races are a nightmare!

GTX 1060 6Gb
16Gb DDR3 1600Mhz
i5-4690 3.5Ghz

I have been playing on Extreme at 3840X1080, 8x MSAA, FXAA, etc. all maxed out. Up until the update, I had no issues keeping a minimum 60FPS with an average closer to 80FPS.

My PC is by no means a beast (i5-4670k, 8gb DDR3, GTX760 2Gb) but I used to play this game 1080p, 60 FPS’s since launch. I only play at weekends and this week I got in-game and I have huge breaks on FPS’s and stutter so the game is unplayable, I also noticed there are no civilian cars on the road. I re-installed the game and nothing changed.

PS: This might be stupid but can you check if it’s something to due with the Microphone permissions? I know it seems stupid but when I re-installed the game and first got it, it all went smooth but then the mic permission window popped up, I accepted and then the civillian cars stopped appearing again and the breaks came back. I played normally after installing again for less then a minute. Lowering graphics, increasing, locking at 30 FPS’s, lowering resolution, nothing fixed it.

Only want to be able to get back in the game ASAP, wonderful game you guys have built and I’ve been a fan since the first Forza, started buying them again when you released for PC with Horizon 3 which I only didn’t ask for a refund to fill the collection cause it was unplayable, FM7 ran smoothly and Horizon 4 was going great till now  Please don’t mess it up again.

I have constant stuttering most times since the update and certain areas of the map trigger massive frame drops that become permanent after 10-15 minutes of play. Performance was somewhat worse after the first update but this update has really messed things up. If I lower settings it helps for a bit then it happens again anyway. This is just like the H3 problems at launch only worse.

Is there any further info about this issue?
It’s been 4 weeks and my game is still unplayable.

Since the update at Oct 23, my game started to have insane FPS drop and become basically unplayable. The game was running perfectly fine before the update and I can play several hours with no issue.

The first known report of the similar issue was posted here: https://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst137008_Terrible-fps-drops-after-update--video.aspx

Known issues:

  1. The map cannot be load fast enough when driving fast. Once the car goes faster than 175kmh, the FPS drop significantly.
  2. Certain area of the map, especially the mountain and wooden area can trigger FPS drop. It also appears to be worse during night time.
  3. After spending a long time in pause menu or Froza festival, CPU starts to stutter. And the whole game is almost dysfunctioned.
  4. Sometimes the game could run relatively smooth when launched, but after play a while the FPS starts to drop.

Tried Solutions and result:

  1. Set all graphics settings to lowest, nothing affected. The FPS drop is as bad as it used to be. Interestingly, the game could run smoothly in the auto graphic-test mode.
  2. Tried to clean up the memory usage, not helped. Considering there was report said that a player who has 16G memory had the same issue, it’s not caused by the memory usage.
  3. Tried to reinstall the game, the problem is still there.

Conclusion:
After the update, the game seems like requires a much higher CPU processing power to load its content. Which lead to unstable and terrible FPS drop when CPU temperature increase.
I am confused by this since the game was perfectly fine before the update.

Computer set:
CPU: I5-8300H Quad-core 2.30 GHz, overclocked to 3.9 GHz
Memory: 8G DDR4
GPU: Nvidia GTX1060 Max-Q 6G

I’m still getting the same stuttering. But maybe it’s better now after the latest Nvidia driver update? I could go hours without a hitch only to having it hitch every 10 seconds afterwards.

Last night was off and on for me. It started hitching and then I went a long time without any stuttering only to have it start again. I’m testing to see if this is related to connectivity issues with Horizon Life as I was going in and out of HL last night. I was playing solo so I didn’t notice until I saw it in the pause menu. Also, I don’t know if it is related or not, but I often go a long time without seeing any traffic on the roads. Not sure if this is a winter thing or not, but getting the daredevil daily challenge was tough.
