The rest of this quote was tl:dr, but this caught my eye. Even if you don’t get the discounted season pass, $1 for a car is fantastic value, AND they added 2 tracks (each with 5 extra cars) and a three car DLC for FREE. I used to play a game on PC called All Points Bulletin. It’s a free to play game, with cars that you can buy with in game credits, and some exclusive cars that you can buy with real money. The cheap cars in that game, on sale ran about $15.00, and the cars that you would actually want to have are just under $30. I know it’s a free to play game, but driving isn’t even the main theme of the game, its a TPS…
With a $50 season pass and a Day One LCE copy of FM5 (including the free content) I’ve gotten 76 DLC cars and 2 tracks, with 10 more cars on the way. Just the season pass puts a single car’s cost at $0.83. If you do not use US currency, here’s something for scale. I went to a gas station today and paid $1.79 for a 20oz bottle of soda. If you can honestly say that you expect more than two entirely unique vehicles built from the ground up to almost perfectly represent their real life counterparts for less than a bottle of soda, your expectations are a little high and you should bring yourself back down to planet Earth with the rest of us.
The problem is that your logic is flawed. That bottle of soda analogy is so wrong it’s scary. Your bottle of Soda serves one person and is affected by a plethora of issues that don’t affect release of a DLC (inclusive but not limited to shipping, advertising etc) A car, built from the ground up for the princely sum of $0.83 is multiplied by the amount of people that buy it and is unlimited. $50 for a season pass is terrible value, just take a look over at Titanfall’s which is £20. Add to this the fact that these cars aren’t really new, most have appeared in previous installments (Yes, it’s a new console) and the value for money aspect decreases further still.
I guess it’s how you look at it and what your money means to you. Games in general have gradually given us less and less value for money, just check out how much DLC was for past games.
In Forza 3, a DLC pack was: 400MSP ($5)
Forza 4, the season pass was $30 and you got the same amount of cars.
Forza 5: Single DLC ($9.99)
Season pass: $50 (That’s before we mention tokens. £13 Bugatti Veyron anyone?)
If you’re not enjoying Forza, it’s probably because you don’t hate yourself enough. This game can be extremely humbling, and that’s one of the reasons I love it. I was just kidding about hating yourself, but since the time I wrote that I am already rationalizing the “truth” in it.
Forza 5 is made from scratch. They had to start over. I get that. Im now playing this game with a controller, rather than my expensive driving set up. Im seeing why its so easy to drive badly with a controller. My point is that turn 10 has made it so assessable, anyone can exploit the problems. without a wheel and sim steering, no assists, this is just a fancy arcade racer. So easy to drive bad.
