steering wheel...

I’ve never used a steering wheel for Forza. I recently acquired one, a Microsoft wheel. Are these pretty good wheels? Anyone know what button is the clutch?

I’m not sure , but you can set the clutch on every button-just go to the controller set up (in game settings )-then choose wheel and put the clutch where ever you want ! Hope that helps!!!

They’re a pretty good wheel for what they cost. They’re not very durable though, so don’t be too hard on it, especially the shifters.

Thanks for the tips guys’.

The clutch is the “A” button. You need to have the wheel set as your controller.
I’ve used the MS wheel since Forza 2.

I prefer using “ABS” Brakes due to the sensitive Brake pedal.

Thank you Tomcat.

You are now taking a step into this game which will only feed the addiction. I started with a mad catz wheel then went to the MS wheel then the PTWS 911s wheel to now with the csr. I know I need help. It makes the game really fun. enjoy.

I find a controller easier

For the price of the MS Wheels they’re decent wheels. Don’t be too rough with it though as it can break if you’re not careful…just like most things. When I used mine before getting the Porsche GT2 wheel I used manual with clutch. I found it easy as the clutch and handbrake button are right next to each other. My clutch was the B button and my handbrake was the A button. I found tweaking around with the deadzone settings helped a lot. I use these deadzones on the controller also except the Force Feedback of course. This may help after getting used to it, it may not. If you need help with tuning I’m happy to help out if needed to be.

My Profile > Options > Controller then press X to access your advanced settings. Steering Inside: 2 Steering Outside: 96, Acceleration Inside: 3 Acceleration Outside: 95, Deceleration Inside: 5 Deceleration Outside: 97, Clutch Inside: 10 Clutch Outside: 100, Handbrake Inside: 10 Handbrake Outside: 100, Vibration: 55, Force Feedback: 60.

I made a mistake when I said the clutch is the “A” button.
The clutch is the B" button with the MS wheel and use the paddles for shifting.

When you have the wheel connected to the Xbox, and in your Profile, select the controller.
Press the X button and select Wheel option “1”
this should switch the clutch to the “B” button.

@ IG ForzaMedia: I’m going to try your settings. I have my force feedback at 90.

Isn’t it difficult to drive with a steering wheel free moving? Seems like it would be odd without it attached to a vehicle, with these wireless ones that are only the wheel.

My friend had given me a Mad Catz wheel system for the original Xbox that was attached to a mock dash with a sequential style shifter that sat on a table, and the pedals (including a clutch) sat on the floor. I tried it with various racing games - Forza 1, Colin McRae Rally 04/05, Rallyspot Challenge 2 - never could get the hang of it.

To me, without feeling the G’s of the vehicle you’re driving, it doesn’t make sense.

Maybe one day I’ll get the full on simulator system!

You’d like this then:

But for 22K I’d rather get a used miata and do track days.

I imagine it would be. As for this setup though, the owner is my brother-in-law. He asked me to build a “cockpit” for him. So I did. Measured his body and built it to his size. The wheel clamps on to the “dash”. I built a small box just wide enough for the pedals to fit into width-wise so they can slide back and forth to accomodate shorter drivers like me. I also built a locking system into the “floorboard” to keep the pedals from moving forward or backward while playing. I still have yet to try it out.

Ah, very cool! Would it be possible to share some pictures of your invention? I’d love to see it, maybe get some ideas for my own someday

@ EZT MAKO 6669 - I didn’t know you could get 360 race wheels with the pedals. Sorry! I haven’t looked around, I’ve just seen the regular cheap Microsoft brand ones before.

I’m pretty sure he’s referring to the Wireless Racing Wheel with the pedals, not the little hand held wheel/controller. The force feedback simulates the G’s fairly well, and the amount is adjustable to your liking.

Some people have trouble adjusting to the wheel, and some say the learning curve is quite steep. I personally was faster with a wheel right out of the box. It’s more natural and intuitive. After all, I don’t drive my car with a controller. It did take a while to get comfortable with my Fanatec, but that had more to do with getting the correct settings for my style. It’s a much more complex system. I was messing around with Horizon the other day, and tried playing with the controller. Nothing doing! I gave up after about ten minutes. I can’t see myself racing with a controller ever again.

Ha, yeah, definitely! I’d have to drive something else though, Miata is too small for me. Literally! I tried to test drive one & didn’t fit in it. No idea how Jeremy Clarkson manages…

MS discontinued the WRW several years ago now. You can probably still find them on E-bay. For the money they were a decent enough wheel, though not all that durable. Most of us got our start with it, and at least in my case, moved on to a better set up when I broke it! Hahaha
