"Stay on track" instead of checkpoints system

Hello, everyone.
My proposal is to take “Stay on track” system from Horizon Stories, which identifies if car isn’t on a designated track for event, starts a limited countdown and if car will not return on track within designated time period, penalizes the player and to apply it to other modes as well. In Horizon Stories penalty is a failure. In all other modes it can be a teleportation behind last car in the race, for example.
I find following reasons for that change:

  1. Both checkpoints and “stay on track” are unrealistic (specific points on the road vs. exact time countdown with automatic activation), but the latter allows for more realistic car driving.
  2. Ramming near checkpoints will disappear as no longer a valid (vile) strategy.
  3. It will ad an extra layer of strategizing during racing, i.e. “I can cut this corner, but maybe I should save my seconds till that one?” etc.

They can and have done this in the past such as with some of those boring Rami’s stories. My take is it ultimately doesn’t matter whether this is added or not, these stories will remain boring due to the boring nature of the map.

By “other modes” I mean all other modes, like Street Racing, Dirt Racing, Online Races etc…

If they went back to how it was on horizon 1 it would be great even get rid of the checkpoints that dont always registar lol just put walls on inside of turns to avoid track cutting

Sounds like a good idea on paper, but what about tracks like the downhill dirt mountain? With this you could skip half of the course and still have time. And speaking of dirt, what about cross country and mixed surfaces? How will that work in those cases?
