The SSC Ultimate Aero was the chief rival of the mighty Bugatti Veyron in the production car speed record chase in the mid-2000s, before Koenigsegg took over. It beat the original 16.4 model’s benchmark in 2007 by setting a two-way average of 412 km/h, only to be blitzed by the improved Super Sport model in 2010. The record-setting car mas the TT model, standing for twin turbo, producing 1180 PS from its modified LS6 engine, featured in a much lower tune in the C5 Corvette Z06. in 2013, however, they built an even more extreme model the XT, which had an all-new, 6.9-liter S/C twin-turbo V8, producing 1300 PS. This drivetrain was planned to be introduced in the Aero’s successor, the Tuatara, and only one Aero with this setup was reportedly built.
