Something is wrong with driver/car proportions

I noticed that the driver most of the time seems too small in relation with the car. If you take a look to formula Mazda for example or other open top cars like Ferrari 333 P the helmet is far too small and the cars look massive.

Or in the case of the Ferrari F40, the driver must be extremely short sitting that close to the steering wheel.

always have been, Formula Mazda and NASCAR are the most extreme examples
