Should FWD drivetrain swaps be added? I know that very few cars, if any, would benefit from this. But I still feel that the few that do, should be able to be converted to FWD.
Take the recently added Alfa Romeo 155 for example. It has a 2.0 turbo AWD drivetrain but I think it’s one of the few cars that would be cool to convert to FWD, especially if they added a Busso V6 for it (yes I know I’ve mentioned that engine before ). Then we could build an ‘extra’ official/unofficial 155 V6 with FWD like irl. I think that would be cool.
Perhaps the Golf R32 could be swapped to FWD as well with certain (new) engine swaps and maybe some of the Golf R’s too. Maybe that way we could build our own makeshift GTI’s?
The Polestar V60 is another one that comes to mind, but again it should have some new engines for it to be a bit more realistic. Like an inline-5 turbo or something.
I don’t see why this should not be possible. But I also think it could only ‘work’ or make sense if they gave us some more appropriate engine swaps to match the FWD drivetrain swap.
It would certainly mean downgrading the cars, but is that really a problem?
I don’t think that tuning the race diff to 100% front and 0% rear gives quite the same effect and handling/driving characteristics.
What do you think?
Edit: I asked this question on Reddit too and got quite some responses. Posting the link here for the devs:
You make some very good points!
I think they should add FWD swaps to cars that can come from the factory as FWD (in a different spec like the VW Golf). If they can come from the factory like that, why shouldn’t it be possible in game?
I don’t believe a downgrade should be a problem, it just gives more room for further upgrades and tuning.
I’ve gotten pretty close with this setup in terms of characteristics, but it feels like such a setback in terms of PI since it still counts as AWD, making them uncompetitive compared to actual FWD cars with the same PI.
FWD swaps will give a whole new experience to those cars and I’m all for it!
I know of this system, but I honestly do not know how many of the cars in Forza would have this (irl). Is this programmed in the game?
If so, does swapping out the diff for a racing diff get rid of this? I usually instantly swap out the diff so I can tune out the understeer.
The '92 and '94 Celica’s are the only other 2 I can think of for a possible FWD swap. The '92 even has the stock bodykit for the regular version. Don’t remember if the '94 has too??
You could also look at Audi, the non-S/RS models come as FWD cars with optional AWD (Quattro).
In the past (talking about FM4) some of these also had the option the change the bumpers to the non-S/RS models. I don’t know if this is still an option in FH5?
But the problem with FWD swapping the S/RS models is that they’ll be way too powerful for FWD, so new engine swaps would be necessary to build realistic tunes. Perhaps a 2.0 TFSI Golf R or GTI engine? Those engines also came in Audi A4’s and A6’s. Or a new 2.0 or 3.0 TDI??
I think FWD swaps for the Audi’s are a bit of a grey area though. They would make more sense on the old Celica’s, 155, V60 and the Golf’s
