Rotary vs. VTEC

I have recently been doing alot of rivals on lower classes, with civic type R with a supercharger, do the Mazda rotary engines have any benefits over conventional engines ?

First off with the Civic are you using the Centrifugal, or the Roots type? In Forza some of the cars are underrated, or should have a higher PI value than what they should because their base value is set by an AI driver on a unknown made up track. Now in doing this the AI shift generally right at red light or before it, and with most Honda’s and Rotary engines power is made by revving them to the moon above red line getting the most out of the car. Now the LS V8 swap also falls into this category as it loves to be revved out.
So in short yes, in lower classes the high revving engines have more benefits, vs and engine that is best suited to be shifted at red line or before. As stated above the AI doesn’t use the power band of some cars as they should.

Like posted before the PI is the determining factor for any class based forza event. But in short they’re very similar, as long as we arent talking turbo applications.

The Hondas V-TEC in theory would allow a car to have two power curves that overlap at the cam swapover point, this means that versus a non VVT engine it should have good low/midrange and a very good top range. This is somewhat replicated in forza and means it has more overall power (area under the curve on a dyno as some like to say)

The rotary features similar high rpm performance but lacks VVT the Hondas have so naturally it’s somewhat lacking in comparison on the lower rpm side.

Basically as a powerplant either are going to be very similar as far as peak performance (what matters 99% of the time in forza) but the Honda has a slight advantage down low, which allows for slightly more flexible gearing. Honestly I’d look at the power vs weight of both engines and make a decision based off of that.

Yes. They are very very fast.

There use is limited to power tracks usually due to the PI hit for the motor. I have a few that stomp on v8s and easily set top 25 times.

The civic type R is good just about everywhere and is easy to drive. I prefer rotary because the cars usually turn out to be fun to drive. The civic is a snooze fest.

The Mazda rx7 fd in b class is a monster if you can get the build right. As for vtecs most of them are all fast for me no real challenge using those cars me and swerve don’t see eye to eye but I’d also agree the rotory engines have a better feel too them

When I’m playing around with comparing stock cars I never pay attention to PI. In real life there is no PI. I tend to look back at past MotorTrend compares and see how the match up in Forza if the cars are there. Even if I just do Street only parts. comparing those setups to faster stock cars.
