Ridiculous Understeer

Have any of you had a car that has just had such ridiculous understeer that you gave up on it?

I’m playing around with one of the free cars after the update, the Abarth. I got it tuned in D class and it handled amazing, but was just way too slow. So, I tried C class since you can pretty much put all the PI into HP as the car still grips great with stock compound/max width tires. I can’t get the thing to turn in though. I tried running it on the Alps against the ghost of my 190E and its a joke. I’m no expert, but my tuning skills aren’t exactly horrendous either. I’ve fooled around with the camber, toe, caster, roll bars, springs, you name it. I think I’ve tried just about every setting combination possible and it just refuses to turn. Its a shame too, because it could be really good for the Alps. Its faster than my 190E, but I lose all that speed on EVERY turn. I just tuned the Ford Transit SSV and that thing turns in way better than the Abarth does.

So, if any of you have had this problem with a car, how did you solve it? Did you just give up and move on to another car? Did you end up with crazy settings to get the thing to turn? This isn’t the first car I’ve had this problem with, but its sure the worst one yet. Anyone got a suggestion on a plan of attack? Giving up looks like it might be the plan, but I wanted to run it by you guys first.

Do you have front tires on it. Also your rear downforce may be to high picking up the front of the car thru the turns. It could be lots of different things leading up to the understeer.

Tires are max width 235’s F/R with stock compound. I’m not using any aero.

Ialyrn, and Gangrel, I’ll go dig up the numbers and the name of the car, I didn’t know there was more than one Abarth.

Which Abarth Lou?

Post your build parts with tune #'s (tire pressure, alignment, etc) & after work I’ll take a stab at it.

Ok, its the Punto Super Sport. I thought the other one was a Fiat (maybe they both are, I know nothing about them).

No Aero

Tune:
Tires:29/30
no gears
Alignment: -3.2/-2.4, 0.2/0.3, 6.0
ARBS: 15.12/25.21
Springs: 385.3/511.2 RH: 6.0/6.9
Rebound 9.0/7.0 Bump 3.2/3.0
No Aero
Brakes: 52/140

The above is the best I have been been able to get it to run yet. I have tried an insane amount of combinations and nothing seems to have much of an impact. This car weighs ~400 lbs less than my 190E and has 40 or so more HP. It also grips just as well. I would beat my 190E times on the Alps easily if I could get this thing to turn. Everything else about it is great.

Been brutally honest, I just dont think it has enough grip to beat the 190E around the Alps. It really needs some extra grip, but to add it you have to sacrifice far too much power. Even tried RWD it and doing an engine swap, I could still only hit a 1:59.115 with it. No matter what build I tried (including yours), I was always hitting 1:59.xxx. I honest cant see where you can gain any extra out of this car on this particular track.

Well, I appreciate the effort on your part. Maybe I was shooting a little too high with it. Its probably best for me to move on anyway, there are a ton of other free cars to tune and try out.
