Request all Badges/Accolades/Achievements be Awarded to All Affected

In May of 2023, I experienced a very disruptive bug that got introduced around Series 18 (Horizon Wilds Takeover) or 19 (Midnights At Horizon). Once the bug was in place, there was no way of getting rid of it. Early on, there weren’t a lot of people affected by it but over time the numbers of people kept increasing. We all submitted tickets that went unfulfilled and we all were active in keeping this post alive in the hope that one day the bug would be fixed. The bug in question is this which has not bee moved to “Closed Issues”

You will notice at the bottom, we were all given the final statement on the bug and long story short, it will not be fixed.

Although I’m depressed with this decision, I can respect that it was made out of some necessity.

However, (you knew there’d be a “however”). In other cases in the past where certain bugs occurred that weren’t fixed, players were rewarded items retroactively after the fact. I respectfully request that everyone who was affected by this particular bug be rewarded with ALL Badges, Accolades, Achievements etc that we were prevented from getting because of this bug. It’s the only fair thing to do in my opinion since the bug can’t be fixed and getting the badges, accolades and achievements will allow us the opportunity to at least complete the game the same as everyone else who wasn’t affected.

Below is the list of everything I and many others may not have achieved. Note, I personally don’t need all of these as I managed to achieve some of them before the bug was introduced. I’m listing everything I could find though since newer players who purchased the game after Series 19 could’ve gotten the bug earlier in their progress.

As GaymerGirl67 said, I’m sharing same opinion that it would be more than fair to be rewarded with all rewards, achievements etc. Especially since I’m still missing two achievements and I don’t have a chance to unlock them now!

Relevant section: Realms will give players the chance to explore a curated collection of some of the community’s favorite previously released Evolving Worlds.

I suspect this is how they are addressing this issue.

I hope they retroactively give us the rewards and much more. Time we wasted to reinstall game, reset consol etc beacuse support told us to do this and that.

No. Horizon Realms is just another opportunity to revisit old tasks. The tasks this bug has ruined for affected users can’t be fixed by simply “trying again”.

How do you know that?

Because the problem isn’t just performing the tasks. It’s about a bug in the game that won’t register that we’ve even done the task . I’m guessing you didn’t check out the original post outlining the bug but essentially, whenever we’re asked to perform a task that requires us to drive a set distance, the game doesn’t account for any distance travelled. See video:

Original vid describing the issue:

Later vid proving the bug is related to “User Accounts” and not just the game itself:

Recorded just now. :smirk:

As mentioned previously, not only have I posted this here on the forums, I’ve also submitted a similar suggestion to my ticket I originally submitted 2 years ago.

What confuses me is the seemingly contradictory message I got from them.

Here in the “Closed Issues” area of the forums, my original post now sits and it clearly says “Will-Not-Fix”. That seems quite definite.

Yet in my ticket response, I got “At this moment, we do not have a definitive timeline for when this issue will be resolved”

Huh? You resolved to not fix it. How is that unresolved?

Anyway, my ticket got closed again.

Please just unlock all of things you locked me (and many others) out of already. I want to move on but this is just holding me back.

Edit: Unless you’re really waiting for “Horizon Realms” to drop because you know already you’re just going to add more impossible tasks you’ll need to just give me after the fact. That won’t surprise me in the slightest.

Like I said, how do you know it won’t be fixed?

That was the question - I didn’t say it wasn’t happening, or that the bug doesn’t exist or how does it happen…

I asked how you know none of it could be fixed or that you won’t have to chance to earn missing badges (because that was part of the question too)

Whatever you do, make another video about it, and rage at the devs some more.

Because the only badges/accolades etc that I need are all related to the bug that prevents me from getting them.

Don’t be mean.

Absolutely! This weird account-linked glitch has plagued us for far too long! I first had the problem on One X and it followed me to Series X. I just put another ticket in about this issue the other day and got the standard “have you tried turning it off and on again” response.

Gee, in the 2 1/2 years it’s been affecting me, I’d never thought of that before! /s

And now with Horizon Realms having some of the most requested cars ever as accolade rewards, I just know our luck will mean they’re all behind distance driven accolades.

The only bit of hope I have is that they’ll want to do some spring cleaning and polishing for the PS5 release, or at least more people will have the same problem, forcing them to do something about it.

Never letting this go!

How do they know it won’t be fixed? Because, if you look on their other thread they linked to about it, it not only has been closed but it has the “will not fix” tag at the top. Additionally, the bug is not listed in any of the “known issues, fixed issues or won’t fix issues” pages

Thinking well into the future now. This message only applies to everyone currently affected by this bug. When Forza Horizon 6 finally hits store shelves and you decide you’re going to purchase it and play, you will have to decide whether you want to continue using your current XBox account or create a brand new one.

Here’s why:

Since this bug is permenantly melded into your current account, there’s no guarantee that this bug won’t simply follow you into the new game. So if there are tasks in FH6 that required specified distances be driven, it may or may not work. If it doesn’t work, then you will again be forever stuck with it. If you can live with that, then carry on and be happy.

However, remember this, IF you decide that’s not the option for you and you make a brand new account that is free of the bug, you will then lose the ability to import all of your vinyls/liveries/tunes etc from your old account into the new game. If you have very few, then that decision is a no-brainer. Unfortunately, I have a ton of liveries/vinyls that I will lose access to. I’m not sure at all about just abandoning so much work because of a stupid bug. Not looking forward to making that decision when the time comes.

Food for thought.

Hello, I have a hypothesis to how this bug is caused. This bug is likely to persisit in other games too. I believe the cause behind this bug is floating point inaccuracy. I believe the game increments the “distance driven” variable every frame, adding a small value (the average wheel speed multiplied by delta). This “distance driven” variable is a 32-bit float. Floating point numbers are unique, in that they can store incredibly small numbers and incredibly large numbers, however lose precision at large values. Therefore, if your distance driven value was 10000000.0, adding a value of 1.0 would literally result in a value of 10000000.0. That’s right, no change. Therefore past a certain point, the game would genuinely not increase your distance driven unless you drive fast enough. This conveniently explains why new accounts are unaffected by this issue, however aged accounts with lots of distance driven are affected. How this ties into distance challenges? The challenge likely stores the distance driven when the accolade is recieved and compares it to a threshold value. The game the subtracts current distance driven by initial distance driven, then replaces initial distance driven with current distance driven and increments the challenge distance driven variable as long as the conditions are met. This loop goes on for every challenge (in my theory). This is problematic, as this means the game thinks there is no difference between current distance driven and initial distance driven, meaning the challenge distance will never increase. Once the challenge distance driven variable is beyond the threshold value, the challenge is complete.

Take this with a massive grain of salt, as I do not know the inner workings of the game, and can only assume. This is the only theory I have came up with that best explains this bug.

For them to fix the bug, the first thought would be to change to a 64 bit float, as its precision vastly surpasses 32 bit float, negating all issues described above. However this would be problematic, as the memory required to store these variables would increase. Not by much overall, however considering previous updates and the difficulty in increasing the FH5 save file, it would definitely be more effort than it’s worth. Hopefully the developers will see this post, so that FH6 doesn’t have the same issue.

Well… someone did something very drastic to fix this bug. That someone, was me. As you can see from this accolade that I just achieved today, the “Distance Tracking Glitch” has been removed from my account and I’m now able to complete the items mentioned in the opening post.

However, it cost me A LOT and technically, it’s still not fixed as it can easily come back at any time for whatever reason. If you want to go through the trouble, here’s what I did. Yeah… I’ve got mixed emotions…

So that means your starting from zero and all the other stuff from over the years is for ever gone?

The game starts at zero so everything lost can be regained (obviously with A LOT of work). All of my livery designs, tunes, etc are all still there. This (to me) was the only way I could be assured that when Horizon 6 comes out, I’ll still be able to use my liveries and the bug will not be affecting me. It’s doubtful I’ll ever get 100% completion of this game but that wasn’t going to happen either way no matter what I did.

So that means the achievements are still not unlocked ?

Correct, still not unlocked but I can now perform the task to unlock them (which I just did this morning).

I’m certainly not saying the glitch is fixed by any means. My solution is not really a solution at all given the fact that I have to do everything all over again. The only good thing that came out of this method was 1. I can complete the achievements. 2. I retain my Legendary status. 3. I retain all of my liveries and design work. 4. The glitch “hopefully” won’t reappear again.
