Hello!
I heard someone talking online about a tune that only used 5 out of the 6 gears, if shifting to 6 it goes back to 5. How is this achieved?
I’m new. Pardon my ignorance.

Are you sure they didn’t just tune the gearing so that 5th and 6th gear were basically the exact same so that even if you did shift into 6th it wouldn’t make much difference???
In any case, what exactly would the point of this be other than a stubbornness to run five gears because you don’t want to or can’t run 6.
I’ve heard of this being done by just moving 5th gear to the same ratio as 6th. If the car is fast enough up to 5th gear on lets say a track with shorter straights why would you need all six?
The less gears you use, at times depending on the track, the better. On a very short track, many gears equals a lost of time in shifting. So, you can adjust FD so you only use what you need.
Why would you shift to a higher gear if you have not reached it’s redline (is diff for rally engine)? Stay in the power band!
Those tunes always irritate me. I will explain.
Yes there are some car / track combinations where 5 gears is best and enough. Some tuners tune 5th and 6th to have the same ratio.
I actually put 6th as a longer gear than 5th. 6th may still come in handy if drafting or if you are on a track with a long downhill section. (If you do track specific tunes you would probably handle that differently though)
