I wonder if there is something wrong with the new rally shock absorbers, I tested the new shock absorbers on my Lancia Delta, and they worked really bad, just too soft even on the hardest setting, I tested my car on a gravel path in the main game, I have not tested shock absorbers on any other car yet, is it just me who thinks they are performing very poorly?
I do not believe there is a widespread issue of too soft suspension.
My reasoning is this. If it was too soft across the board then the storm island tracks would certainly reveal that and there would be multiple complaints.
I have tuned around a dozen cars for storm island and use the following rough settings:
Max ride height
Very low springs but I make sure front and rear are not too far apart
Medium to high rebound
Lowish bump
All have worked well without major bottoming out even on the big jumps.
I have not tried the Lancia yet.
I have driven my cars around the tamer roads and tracks on the island in free roam and they feel fine.
I will test the Lancia when I get home from work.
May I ask what makes you think they are too soft? Feel, bottoming out, poor handling?
The one thing I will say is in my opinion the default spring and rebound settings are poor and out of balance.
I haven’t changed the default tuning on any of the cars I put the rally suspension on and the suspension has worked great over bumps and off the incredibly massive jumps that exist on the island. In fact, you can tell the drivatars are NOT on the rally suspension as your car lands nicely and keeps going and the drivatars go tumbling and flipping in a massive crash when they land.
The Audi T10 gifted us came with all rally parts on it and i raced it in the group b monsters series and the handling was great, much better than race parts. I could really feel what the car was doing on cross country events. I like the new rally parts for cross country alot!
The rally parts work best on off-road courses. On-road and loose terrain (such as tarmac and gravel) they will feel very, very soft. If you are adjusting the dampers (shocks), you might do better adjusting the springs and sway bars instead.
I’ve tried driving on the Island now, and they definitely needed on the Cross Country events, but the usual rally events I run significantly faster with the same setup that I drive on the mainland, ie without any rally tires and shock absorbers, has no problems keeping up with Unbeatable ai, and what is the point of offering a rally gearbox when we already have an adjustable gearbox? And the Rally tires cost more PIs than what they will give back in performance I think,
These parts are needed for those who choose to build but not tune and there are plenty of players who do that.
The race gearbox and rally gearbox are both adjustable but do offer differences in original set-up for players who do not tune. Other than that, the rally gear box has faster shifts than the race, so if you are a tuner I highly recommend the rally gear box as you’ll tune it anyway and you will get the quicker shift bonus. Also, the rally box is cheaper - and with all the Storm Island bonus boards - free on many cars whereas the race gearbox is simply discounted.
The Rally springs lift the ride height as opposed to lowering it, and offer, well, a much higher lower ride height limit.
The tires I treat as I would tire compound in any other build.

The drag tyres in FM series offer more grip but useless round corners, same thing here with the rally tyres, not as much traction on tarmac but better off-road than a race tyre.
I did plenty of tuning on the gift Audi with the rally parts,i think there is alot of tuning options for a tuner with the rally parts,at least for me but i tune all my cars anyways.
I find that the gearbox and springs for rally work well for me. Rally tires not so much. You lose .10 grip with the rally tires as opposed to the racing tires. If you want to save PI you can use street grip tires with AWD. Seems to hold a turn pretty well. I started a series on Storm Island with racing tires, rally suspension and transmission and got a note displayed pre race that I should buy rally parts. The race tires worked well for me though.
Racing slicks and pavement-good,dirt not so good, rally tires and dirt-good,pavement not so good.
I like 'em, my cars seem more predictable at high speeds offroad.

I like the way you think!!
I tend to race cars stock or close to stock.
I’m jut throwing on rally suspension and racing. Some cars / tracks don’t even need this.
Just did a test. Had a time at North Valley Extreme Cross Country in A class of around 1.39 ish.
That was with all the rally bits.
I changed my build to include just rally suspension with sport tyres and street gearbox and retuned a little bit and have run a 1.35.2.
Test your builds people.
PS the retuning was to go very soft across the board.

Yeah I came to here by feel as well.
Had all rally bits on a stock Fiat 131 Abarth - felt slow and sticky, couldn’t keep up with the pack because their PI upgrades were more towards power.
Stripped back to just rally suspension and even with the big PI drop, the car felt faster and blasted through the field.
I just changed the tires on my 90’s Evo from street sport to rally and there was no difference as far as grip. When you buy tires it tells you the difference and this was zeroed. Same grip specs. And I’ve been getting better results from the racing tires even on surfaces other than pavement. Go figure…Charles
If you want your suspension too be stiffer you gotta adjust the springs, not just the shock absorbers

I meant the springs when I thought they were too soft, they are useful in extreme cross-country events, but race suspension works better on ordinary gravel roads, at least for me.
