TheGillesMuller on repeat here…
All the signs were there in FH4 and people chose to ignore them, FH5 is just the result.
Let a rot set in and it will only go worse + affect more of the thing it’s got into.
For some of us that is exactly the problem.
It’s like buying a box of chocolates, opening the box, removing some of the chocolates, wrapping them up separately and passing them off as separate or additional gifts. That’s basically what’s going on here.
The content in question was in the previous game.
The content in question was carried over into the current game…
…yet it gets presented as “updates” and “additional content”.
The problem isn’t the cars or even recycling cars. The problem is a combination of a fairly boring map, lack of engaging racing (think no ranked online), no real progression system. Add to all of this stories have been dumbed down and are generally very easy to get 3 stars. Compare that to some very hard stories in Horizon 4.
My guess is there are many hard core and long time Horizon players like me still playing Horizon 5 but only doing just what they need to. We’re now having a blast with Need for Speed Unbound and other racing games.
Maybe the cost to license the cars has become higher… I don’t know. I found widely ranging info on the licensing cost. One guy said that Porche only really charges a fee because they have to pay people to gather and provide the specs, especially on the historic cars. Another said its over $250K to get the Ferrari license.
Anyway… I only drive a few cars that I love, what really seems to have declined is PGGs ability to fix things. Yes, the leaderboard issue has been around, but the fixes for other issues, other than cosmetic crap, seem to take forever, or don’t happen.
I want ranked online racing!
Ah yes, Moses B. While I don’t disagree with his take here, he has a laughably bad take on the car wash scene from TDU2. Taking a holier than thou stance on why it shouldn’t have been allowed and how it could influence young gamers. The perpetuation of “misogyny” and all that…
For those you don’t know or remember, TDU2 had 3 NPC bikini clad females that washed your car to “suggestive music”.
I mostly remember Moses B getting into arguments with his comment section when Playground re-added the Zenvo without the weird wing. There was a misspelling in the announcement that even Playground admitted to, but because there was an actual Zenvo with that misspelled name, Moses B kept saying it was new when it wasn’t and would delete YouTube comments telling him otherwise. Then, about a week later, the video mysteriously vanished.
Other than that, he occasionally makes good content and has good points usually, but his comments about the car wash were definitely silly, and I’ll never forget the Zenvo fiasco with him.
I was kicking and screaming the whole way down.
The problem with this game is exactly why it got good reviews: it’s FH4, cranked up to a new level. I have no interest in playing the same game as before, but with a worse map, worse meta, worse progression and even more cringe, for another 3 years.
Can’t even play it anymore, since I cancelled my Game Pass sub.
Yeah, he has some bad takes. He has this terrible idea that pretty much any significant visual modifications besides paint is “poor taste” as if any car with aftermarket rims and a bodykit is immediately some monstrosity. Nothing wrong with preferring a stock look, but going as far as to say “Customization doesn’t count as a gameplay feature” I think you’re taking it way too far.
That being said, I think specifically here he hit the nail on the head explaining why FH5 isn’t very popular with the community.
Well, he did say NFS The Run, which was a short game with horrible sounds and a complete pile of excrement on PC, was a “bite-sized masterpiece”.
I wasn’t as upset with The Run as some were, but it is very linear. His payback take (and most peoples) I don’t agree with either. I liked the story, it was the parts “cards” that I despised.
Well it’s definitely possible for bad personalities to have good takes. I’m also a huge fan of Overwatch, and that game has a ton of personalities who I dislike surrounding it (not all but a lot). Not all of their takes are good, but every single one of them has had a good take at some point.
I don’t know much about Moses B, but it sounds like I wouldn’t like this personality either. However, this is a good take.
I don’t 100% agree on every point, but it’s a good foundation to work on and discuss.
I’m going to get some heat for this, but I kind of agree with his take on customization. I know its a popular feature and I don’t think it should be stripped away from those who enjoy it, but I feel like the developers should be spending their time fixing bugs and better enhancing the gameplay in ways that EVERYONE will notice rather than adding more rims and bodykits. Also, this is technically more upgrading than customization, but tuning is especially so broken that it ruins both multiplayer (because everyone relies on meta-builds) and single player (because Drivatars get upgrades players are incapable of adding).
Also, slight tangent since this isn’t really a Forza problem yet, but I found a lot of the customization in NFS Unbound to be utterly appalling. I can appreciate clean builds, but not monstrosities, and I hope neither Playground or Turn 10 spend their time and resources on adding ugly bodykits like NFS. It’s bad enough so much time was spent on Avatar customization that is highly improbable.
I’d rather have it and not use it than not have it personally.
Mind you I’m the kind of guy who will have multiples of one car with multiple builds (and paint jobs). Like my 240SX. 1 C class near stock, 1 B class with non-widebody kit (still NA though), and one A class widebody and turbo build.
I also avoid using the generic Forza aero like the plague. It rarely looks good, and I’ve always been a bigger fan of mechanical grip anyways.
I’m getting off point though. The point is, it’s important to me to have the choice, even when I do choose not to use it. It’s like how I play other games that have the choice to be good or bad. Most of the time I’m choosing to be good, but the fact that I could have made the choice makes the choice that I did make more meaningful and/or personal to me.
I will say though that some cars are meant to be modded, and not having the ability to put mods on them would be a travesty.
Meh, that’s fair. I just find the customization lacking to such an absurd and unprofessional degree. Take that hideous Forza Aero. We’ve had that for SEVEN year starting with FH2. Not one point in the time that’s passed did they bother to make at least a set of 10 or so universal wings that more or less fit on every car, something Need For Speed Most Wanted did eighteen years ago.
There’s also just the absurd amount of pre-modified cars in the game with plenty of assets to resuse as customization on other cars. I’m pretty sure the Hoonicorn’s hood can fit on a stock Mustang Boss with some resizing and tweaks, why haven’t they tried that? They’re not even lazy to our benefit.
Unfortunately, they have already made uglier body kits.
Take a look at the Civic Type R Forza Edition (EK9) fake rocket bunny kit…
In all seriousness, I too think some of the NFS Unbound body kits are overkill, but the important thing is that these body kits are “one of several options”, not “the only option”.
Each person’s visual customization of a car is as individual as his or her tastes and personality, just like his or her clothing.
A radical and ugly body kit that is unacceptable to you or me may seem attractive to someone else as an expression of creative style.
Having these various options is a plus, not a minus.
