Rally Gearbox = Race Gearbox?

Is there any difference in these 2 gearboxes? I personally don’t understand why the rally one was introduced. You can shorten the race box to rally specs and there is almost no difference between them, and vice versa when the rally box is lengthened. Yet, the race box gives more PI than the rally one

Is there something I’m missing? Does the rally box change faster or something.

It offers shorter gears for players not familiar with or who don’t want to bother with tuning.

This. Not everyone who plays Forza is into tuning, much less understands the concepts behind it. For that reason, the rally transmission is a quick (and mandatory) install for Storm Island events which rightfully aids the plug and play gamers.

All the info is in game.

The rally.box is often heavier but changes faster.

Still not worth using either.

I never did look into the weight of the rally box compared to the race box. Then again, I don’t often use them unless necessary and when I do I end up tuning them myself anyways. I’m all for the quicker shifts, but I will now go and look at what the weight penalty is.

I will let you in on a secret. None of my quick Storm Island cars use a race or rally gearbox - none.

If I have done a swap I use stock. If I am using the natural drivetrain I am using stock or street.

I do have builds with all 3 rally parts but that is just to have a play.

^ Same. =D

I never upgrade my gearbox past Sport. The sport gearbox will allow you to adjust the final drive while tuning which is more than enough. =) Also, keeping it at Sport keeps the overall tuning points down allowing you to add more points on elsewhere. If you need to just make your car shift faster, it is best to upgrade the clutch rather than the gearbox as it costs less points to use. ^.~

Thanks for the tip. The final ratio will do most of the time, although there are cars I like to adjust the individual gears to be closer or further apart.

I don’t often use gearbox upgrades past sport myself. The only time I do is if there is no other way to max out the PI in a given category, which happened to be the case in the Focus RS for example. There are only so many upgrades to chose from on the 1.6L Rally Turbo swap. If I was on the stock motor, I wouldn’t have a race gearbox in it.

I checked it out and it’s strange. On some cars the gearboxes weigh the same, and on some the Rally Gearbox is slightly heavier. Then, I also found some cars that, depending on the upgrades you used, the gearboxes weighed the same and if you changed the upgrades so did the weight difference of the gearboxes.

True. I was thinking too in depth, haha.

I think that the gearing should have some sort of tutorial, if you ask me. It’s kinda crucial for people tuning high end cars and want them to actually hit their top speed lol.

Well, there is a tuning description for each component which kind of serves that purpose. Tutorial or not, some people will just never deal with transmission adjustments and having the rally transmission as an install component certainly plays the role of providing gameplay accessibility.

And all the casuals really need to learn is the effect of the final drive ratio. Top speed is even simulated and displayed as the ratio is adjusted, so they can see the effects right on the same screen. (The only caveat is making sure the top speed happens in the top gear, so no gear is wasted, and they keep a decent launch in 1st gear.)

This special rally tranny made more sense in FH1, where we couldn’t tune at all. I agree it isn’t needed here, unless other variables are added, like ruggedness for those who race with real damage. Maybe that’s there? I don’t know. I don’t have the Storm Island DLC.

Of all the rally upgrades, the gearbox is the least useful. I guess they just added in for the aforementioned reason (having a plug-and-play short ratio gearbox), plus because they had one with the Rally EP for FH, so why not?

Mostly a real sequential transmission…shifts faster and has shorter ratios. Personally i like it, i put it on almost every cars i have and then re-apply the same or custon gear ratios to achieve high top speed.

I say use whatever works best for you. In cross country the rally trans works best for me.

^ all that, personally I dont use it (or any other rally parts for that matter) and normal/any transmission which increases the speed value does fine for me

I would love to have this on the 360 , since many cars have way to long gear ratios on the 360 , and without tuning , you can not shorten it

Can u elaborate the differences on the gear boxes
