Racing Transmission

How come on some of the cars, though the performance index always go up, some stats go drastically down when you upgrade to a racing transmission, such as the acceleration and launch? If it takes less time to shift gears, shouldn’t those things improve, regardless of the car?

because when you add parts it does not calculate tuneing, it calculates it off ratios when you instal it before adjusting it. most times a stock gear ratio will be optamized for the cars weight, hp, power band etc…by the manufacture for that specific car model. when you instal the race tranny it if for every carr in forza, its not optamized. a high reving 4 cylinder is going to need very different gearing that a more powerful slower reving v8. pi does not take adjusting the parts into consideration. if you set ever gear for max acceleration the car will redline top gear at 10 mph. the pi wont change. if you go all the way to the top spped side for every gear you’ll never get out of 1st and the pi wont change. with proper aero you can knock seconds off a lap, but putting it on drops the pi.

the pi and those rating are pretty much useless when you tune the car. try it on the track and adjust it acordingly.

Oh I see, so the race transmission will always be better, but sometimes you have to manually tune it to get the most out of it.

On some cars/tracks it may not help, on others it will. Gearing in game is a little simplistic because installing a race diff should give you an adjustable final drive in the diff settings but oddly this is under the gearbox settings. Correct in a FWD or RWD with transaxle but incorrect in front engine RWD cars. Often a change in final drive is enough adjustment.

It depends on class and car if race transmission is worth it. Higher classes and higher end cars u will most likely be running a race transmission. A class and down u won’t need to run many race transmissions. Personally I stay away from them unless absolutely necessary because I want to save the pi for power or grip. 90% of my cars A class and under have a sport transmission or under. Some people may or may not agree but again that’s how I do it.

Basicly launch and accell are dependent on starting from a standstill so when you change 1st gear to be much longer (different transmission) the car takes longer to get to a certin speed from scratch so the numbers are lower.
