Well, here we are on the eve of another Forza launch.
Exciting, no?
Every new title brings with it, unfortunately, a flurry of idiotic and irresponsible behaviour. Here are a few tips, pointers and general advice for new players. These can help you stay out of trouble, and perhaps reduce the flood of “why did I get banned” posts that invariably pop up after a new release.
HOW TO NOT GET BANNED
PAINTWORK: Use common sense and empathy when designing a livery. Avoid hate-speech, political opinions, religious messages, homophobic slurs, and any other controversial topics. For God’s sake, DO NOT paint “free candy” on a van. Please, just don’t. It’s about as funny as the Hindenberg disaster, and is genuinely offensive to a huge number of people.
ON-TRACK BEHAVIOUR: Don’t crash your way to the podium. This is a fairly rough-and-tumble racing game, there will be countless bumps, scrapes and bent bodywork. That being said, torpedoing your opponents in corners, using other racers as your brakes, and running folks off the road is poor sportsmanship. Rubbing is Racing- Ramming is NOT. More than a few “combat drivers” received temp bans for such tomfoolery in past titles, don’t be the next one!
COMMUNICATING WITH OTHER HUMANS: Don’t lose your ish over the mic. Even if someone else is being a tool in whatever way, cussing them out is unlikely to help. In fact, THEY could go ahead and report YOU. Don’t mock those who aren’t as fast as you. We all started somewhere, and some folks just aren’t that good. This in no way means they can’t enjoy this game, just leave 'em be. Better yet, use your know-whats to help them get better. Remember, these are REAL PEOPLE, and no-one who bought FH3 was signing up to be verbally abused.
So, mind your manners! A little common sense never hurt anyone- quite the opposite, in fact. With a little discresion, and a modicum of respect for others, this game can be a positive experience for all involved.
Thank you for reading, drive safe, and behave yourselves out there!
