Possible glitch allowing people to be faster? Looking for a rational explanation

Ok, so…here’s the situation. I’m not angry about this or anything, just a little confused and was wondering if anyone here could provide a rational explanation.

I was running in the S Class ghost lobby tonight, and the specific race was at Spa, 3 laps, nighttime. I was having a very good race and was in the lead practically the entire time. In fact, I built my lead from the very beginning and at my best, I was about 1,000-1200 feet ahead. Then all of the sudden, everything changed. Despite my third lap being my fastest lap, the second place car started gaining on me like crazy. A quadruple digit lead turned into a triple digit lead, to a double digit lead, to being overtaken near the end of the race resulting in a second place finish, all within a span of a minute and a half. It was like the guy morphed into Mario frickin’ Andretti and his R34 GTR sprouted a turbine engine off an F-22. His best lap ended up being a full 6 seconds faster than mine despite being slower than me for the first two laps. The guy also spun out really hard on lap 1 on one of the fastest parts of the track (the straight immediately follow Eau Rogue) and still came back from it. The spin came out of nowhere and actually appeared to be purposeful. My mind is blown.

And no, it didn’t appear to be anything lag-related; everything was smooth and none of the cars seemed to be jumping around the track.

If this guy is flat out better than me I’ll fully accept that, but something about it just didn’t seem right. Maybe he was holding back purposefully just to mess with me, I don’t know.
Without disclosing how, is there some way people are glitching the game or do I need to remove my tin foil hat?

No idea - what league are you in? (Pinnacle, Elite…)

What were the laptimes?

Elite - my best was 2:31, his was 2:25.

I’m not at home - but a 2:25 seems pretty reasonable for a S class car in my memory (But I can’t really verify)

Maybe it was just a real fast player he/she just kind of played around for 2 laps and then got on it.
Do you remember what car it was?

I seem to remember being able to do 223’s in the DBS A class in FM5 and that car ended up being mid S class in FM6 and 2:19s in 2013 Viper GTS which that car ended up being R823 (So pretty close to S max S class). SO I think the time is reasonable and you may have just met a fast player in Elite. But I would have to check leaderboards of FM6 when I get home to be sure.

He was in an R34 GTR. I’m not sure what the best times are for S-class, I only halfway pay attention. I just try to get better myself. I am by no means the fastest driver but I’m pretty good and normally hold my own.

Not sure but it could still end up being related to lag or a poor Internet connection on the other driver’s side.

He could just be sand bag you. A 2:25 doesnt sound that fast for S class. I use to wait at the start in slower lobbys. You can’t tell if someone is come up hot through the pack until they passed 2nd place.

Quite a good point, but the S-class lobby last night was a ghost town; that specific race was only me, him, and one other guy. He was in second most of the race, I am sure.

I’ve decided the most rational explanation is that he was taking it easy most of the race and decided to turn on the afterburners for the final lap.

…Or his girlfriend said " if you lose this race you ain’t getting any"

Sometimes you just need a little incentive

Me and you both - The times I put up above are probably top 500 times (FM5) and 2-4 seconds slower then a fast driver (like AKRA1X above- pretty sure he was top 100 driver overall in FM5). I had a race series that I raced in in those cars that were 25 laps so I bet I practiced in them for 100s of laps. I’m pretty good probably faster then 99% of the population - but they make me look slow  - Its only been lately that I can finish races with top/ top drivers. lol

That’s what I was going to say lol.

In FM4, I was probably in the top 200, period. Had several top 50 laps times throughout all the classes/tracks. Never had any trouble getting into the top 200-100 lap times on any track in any class.

But the difference between where I was and the top 50, 25, and 10, was INSANE. Seconds worth of difference. I was good enough to get booted from lobbies consistently for winning in B class (where EVERYONE races freaking Civics) with my Lincoln Continental, but the gap between me and the top guys in the world was/is just nuts! Anytime I got to feeling cocky all I had to do was go watch a top 10 lap time from the leaderboards to be immediately, painfully, humbled. Lol.

The top ten is all about milking that last tenth out of each lap. It’s crazy how good some of these guys really are. Ive raced guys like chronic and Lionel and it is pretty humbling.

No offense but 2:31 is the same time that I run on Spa in A Class with my NSX (clean). Most likely scenario is that he was sandbagging you.

I’ve done this countless times in lobbies where there aren’t many people and they are much slower than I am. Not to be funny, rude or a show-off but, if I just take off and leave them, it’s been my experience that most people just rage quit and I’m left by myself. I play Forza to race with other people and if that means sandbagging at times just to keep people in the lobby, so be it.

I highly suggest looking at the leaderboards on Spa for S Class and racing some of the faster ghosts. Best way to get faster IMHO.

2:25 on Spa at night is respectable, but there are currently about 20 drivers who beat that time by 1-4 seconds.

It takes the right car, the right setup, and the right skill and knowledge of the track.

I’d encourage you to go to Rivals -->S Class -->Leaderboards and look for a time a 2 seconds faster than your best time in the same car, select that player and WATCH REPLAY. Once the replay loads, change to game camera view and observe how they navigate the track. You can turn on telemetry to see when they shift, how much brake, etc. You’d be surprised how much your shifting can affect your overall time if you’re driving manual or manual w/clutch. If you’re driving automatic shifting, you will never post the fastest time.

The next step would be to set that player as a rival and chase their ghost. You will eventually beat them if you keep at it.

If you think their tuning setup is giving them an edge over you, look for a rival in the leaderboards near you with full circle (two half circle symbols) in the FILE column of the leaderboard and download the tune he used (The left half circle means you can download the tune used; the right half circle means you can view the replay).

If you’re driving the same car, same tune, and using the same assists as your rival and you still can’t beat them – you just need to keep at it. Eventually you just might.

Solid advice.

Thank you JONK1969, and everyone else, for your suggestions! Glitch or no glitch (and it’s looking like it’s all me :P) it’s always good to know how some of the best players get better.

Unless there was only two of you in the lobby it possibly took the winner some time to make his way into 2nd then he just reeled you in over the last lap or so. 1000ft isn’t much at 150mph

Spa is easy to mess up. Once you lose momentum your lap is junk. It’s nothing to gain 2 seconds at spa with solid cornering.

If I had to guess, he had a rough race.

Lap 1 he wrecked.

Lap 2 he went off course, took a few bad lines or got stuck in a battle with 3rd place.

Before lap 3 he probably got into a rhythm and caught you.

Some corner cutting may have occured, but to rule out that possibility all you’d have to do is race him several more races to see how much faster he really is.

You save the replay?

Yep,the TOP 200 today was a TOP 1000 in FM 4,I’m happy to hold some Top 50’s on F6,but compared to the TOP 5 its not worth to mention it
Back to topic,Spa has some certain areas, that gain seconds if you get them right and your oponent not. Dont bother, just keep having fun by doing clean laps and you’ll improve!
