If that turns out to be an exclusive license type agreement similar to what EA held for years, it would be good for those that enjoy Forza in that Porsches are no longer their own expansion pack and that it means that we can drive a Porsche day one without DLC in FM7 as well as securing and extendeing the position of Forza being the dominate racing game franchise. At the same time, an exclusive license would mean that Microsoft can block Sony or any other company from placing Porsches in their racing games such as GT Sport unless they are willing to pay a large sum of money to them which will be bad especially for PS4 players which would be left with no new racing games that have any Porsche car in them at all.
I got to buy a X box gift card…I know a lot of people will have fun …with the racing liveries and such…but no 86 944 Turbo …that is my favorite Porsche next to 959 and 928 which has never been in a game!
So 5 out of 7 cars in the pack are new to the entire franchise on the current-gen consoles. For 2 cars (718 RS 60 & 550 Spyder) we already payed in FM6 but they are still new to the Horizon series. A bit of a bummer but in the end I can live with that considering what else I’m about to write.
The best news though is that this is not the second expansion pack. Kudos to T10/Playground for releasing most of the new Porsches as a plain car pack and bringing the older ones to the game as free Forzathon updates. With Porsche making appearances in about every other racing game as well I think this is the best way to deal with it. And I will expect that future games like FM7 will have Porsche in the base game from the start as well. The EA rule is (finally) over.
So the best thing to come out of this is that the second half of my expansion pass will not be wasted on “just Porsches” but most likely will see new proper content worthy to be called an expansion, hopefully and most likely something with a map expansion. I have big hopes that this will be Tasmania, would be nice to have a separate island expansion and the contrast with Blizzard Mountain would be nice.
I was not planning to buy any future DLC packs anymore since I barely play the game anymore but with this exciting new move in regards to adding Porsche to the game without wasting the expansion pass on it I have to say Turn 10 / Playground finally make a move again of which I think it’s good and gives a good feeling.
Funnily enough, though I was going to buy this, the cars I’m most interested in aren’t actually included in the DLC pack, but are free in the Forzathon events. So maybe I should just wait and get those.
something’s gone kablooey on T10’s end of things… or Microsoft’s side of things. They’re working on it atm, but there’s no word on a timeframe for a solution
The good news is, it’s not an Expansion. Just a big car pack. Good. That’s how it should be done 'cause, really, Porsche Expansion would have been a waste. And now I can’t wait to see what the next expansion pack is.
