Has anyone else noticed that unless you’re full-throttleing your car, there is absolutely no acceleration at all… I have a 400Hp/400lb;ft torque 300zx running 18.5 lbs of boost and on the Prague (full circuit) track there is a very steep up hill. It’s near the beginning after you pass some boats on the right and go under a bridge. If I’m in 3rd gear, half throttle at 3 grand I get absolutely no acceleration. The speed/revs stay right at 3,000 rpm’s and I hover right around 48mph. For a 400hp/400lb;ft of torque car, that’s piss poor. In real life I drive an Infiniti G37xS and if I hit a steep hill and decided to half throttle the car, it would accelerate and shoot right up the hill. G37’s have 328hp and ~268 torque. So that’s 72 more hp my 300zx has and a whopping 132 more torque, yet it’s slower than my G. Don’t get me wrong, if I floor my 300zx, it’s very believably fast, it’s just when you’re not full throttling the car. I dare anyone else to try this: if you have even a reasonably quick car IRL, go to a hill, select 3rd gear, half throttle and you should have no problems accelerating. Then go pop in Forza 5, pick one of you’re ~400-475hp cars and go do the same. I bet you will be disappointed.
P.S: Yes I have set my acceleration deadzone’s to 0 and 100.
Could be a lot of things, probably turbo-lag, press down on the d-pad and you can see exactly how much hp/tq/boost your engine is ticking out at any point in time.
I know what you mean. This happens with all the cars throttle response in game. It is how Forza has always been and don’t expect to get the same feel as a real car where you can idle at any speed you want with ease.
change the gearing. you can get more acceleration out of less power with better gearing. my first upgrade is alway a pro tranny. i can change the gearing and get faster shift times. yeah its only a little over 1/10th of a second, but thats a second under power rather than coasting for every 10 upshifts. give a few of those hp and get a pro tranny and slide the final drive to acceleration until you are redlineing at the end of the longest straight on the track in the highest gear then play with the individual gears to come out of most corners at the bottom of the power band rather than the top, you dont want to have to shift again within a second of getting back on the gas. it’ll save you shifts which are coast time. the pro tranny costs very few pi, and will cut seconds off your lap time once adjusted for the track over useing the same pi for hp.
RDO while you may be correct in many instances there are also many variables and many times that using the race gearbox will actually net you a much worse car. If the cars stock gearbox keeps you within powerband that 6-10 pi may be a huge hit for not so much gain, and more power or handling may also be more beneficial.
The games a simulation not 100% accurate. Also the hills in reality are much steeper than what you percieve in game. Trust me
Tweaking your gearing for that track would likely help a lot. Ideally you want to be red lining at the bottom of that hill in C and D class with the pedal to the floor to keep revs up and maintain speed. It’s quite the climb!
Also gearing your car to red line at the end of longest straight in the highest gear isn’t usually the best way to tune a cars gearing. It’s better to gear it so that you can keep high revs and speed in the corners without having to shift. That’s where time is lost/gained not in the last 50 feet before slowing down.
I’ve noticed that when setting up gear ratios, the red line at the end of the longest straight isn’t always the best route to go. Watching the 0-60 or 0-100 indicator on the screen to the left seems to work better for my circumstance… An example would be desiring a 411 gear at the end of a long straight to theoretically obtain the highest speed . Watching that screen may produce a much quicker 0-60 @ 420. 430 or maybe lower at 390- 400. Just got to change the ratio one digit at a time. It occurs randomly throughout all the gear ratios, a 310 gear may produce the same 0-60 time as a 400. It varies, but it is there…
I personally prefer to be past HP peak on the straights and will gear the car to the 0-60 or 0-100 accordingly to which ever is quickest to attain that.
I agree with the last two posts about setting up gears. I have NEVER, not even once, found that setting final gear so you redline in the last gear at the end of the longest straight is the best way. Thats not right at all. Some cars that are 6 speeds do best using 4 or 5 gears anyway. And being able to hold momentum in corners without shifting is super important as well. But anyway…
You are comparing a street coupe or sedan (sorry not a sports car) big V6, naturally aspirated car, with a street transmission to a high pressure turbo track car. Forget for a second that you are even comparing a game to real life. Even still, cars that cute moms drive to get groceries (G37s) are made to create great torque in much lower rpms then turbo charged track cars. They are made purposely to pull their weight, up hills even, without having to rev high. Track cars like what you have with that 300zx with several engine upgrades are designed to make power higher up in the rpm range. For racing…
