We knew about this discord over a year ago and how it had gained traction due to certain YouTube channels promoting it
True
I have reported this fact in the past to support but nothing was done at the time.
I believe that the developers can identify who uses the “tool” but have not yet found an effective way to block it.
The trick is to wait and be patient and always report when we see something suspicious.
The Devs are fully aware of it and it is being looked into I can assure you of that but I do know there is a lot of avenues to be looked into and it’s not just as simple as shutting it down completely. I can’t really say much more on it than that
Removing myself from these contests until integrity is restored, the judging process is fixed, and there are separate division for Race/Replica and Fantasy/Other and more winners.
Someone recently won with a design made by software. That is the final straw for me.
From the start I have begged those running this contest to structure it like it was in FM3/FM4 - two categories Race/Replica and Fantasy/Other with 3 winners in each and 2 runner ups - all 10 get featured. I have begged for judges that at least understand the painting process, as well as aesthetics. T10 has not been willing to budge on anything, not even an offer of a compromise. When I was part of the only T10 Supported FB Design group we offered to create a basic judging guide and T10 refused it. When the old structure was in place, participation was much better, as well as quality of the entries and winners.
Until some changes or at least compromises are made, I am out. Good luck to the rest of you.
Yes I understand, the process to block the thing is complex.
As I said, I have been reporting and following the issue for a while now too, I thank you for your attention to the case, the more people report the fact, the better it is for us to defend our community
Don’t do it, don’t give up.
I did this a while ago and I regret it, now whenever possible I’m participating here on the forum and in LivRevs, because if we give up and “disappear” the tool and whoever uses it wins.
I also think that some changes and inclusion of categories in LivRevs should happen, but I don’t know the availability and time that this would consume for those who take care of it.
I just can’t do it anymore. Week in and week out, basic designs are beating out complex designs that took 10 times more time and effort. This wouldn’t be a problem if they had separate divisions like they used to. I have been fighting this fight for 2 years now, Skogarmer will tell you that I have had dozens of conversations with the main 3 that run this, and they refuse to even compromise. All they do is push great painters away from these contests.
I’ll just get my stuff in Trending Today so it can be seen by a few then disappear into the abyss and move on. The integrity of this contest is supremely compromised and I refuse to be part of it any longer.
Thanks though for your words of encouragement, but I just can’t enter these anymore unless some changes happen.
the tool and whoever uses it wins.
or maybe show tool users the flaws of using said tool… (images being pixely etc) and tell them to go to communities to help them get better at vinyl editor/livieries system if they choose to change. as for me i going to ask some suggestions in the right forum and learn how to use the vinyl/livery editor. better than probably ask the judges if i they want me to join a livery contest in sometime in the future. i’ll be honest i am feeling dumb about the whole thing.
Myself and a fair few more are keeping our eyes peeled for tool users also and keep reporting. Also as for the contests there has been offers of help from the community to aid T10 in the running of the LivRevs
There is plenty who will help you use the vinyl editor out there with tips and tricks how to use it. Some even have videos out there to show you how to do things. Just ask the questions in the right places and you’ll get the answers. I help run a large Facebook livery community which helps those interested in livery creation and other creative elements of the game. It is a T10 affiliated group so does adhere to the ToS of T10 and PGG

Hi everyone, hope you are all happy and well - I know my spelling is terrible but with this livery I am of course trying to adhere to the game guidelines about logos etc. I do have other versions and I hope you still like it.

At least you admit it, thank you for that. I wish you would have found the Facebook group before the paint tool. There are so many cool folks there that are willing to help others learn. It’s a very supportive community that doesn’t judge people based on their experience or skill level. I’ve posted numerous videos and posts with tips and tricks there that people tell me to this day that they use regularly in their design process.
I am glad that you are choosing to learn how to use the editor and giving up on the paint tool. Once you make something cool, you’ll have a sense of accomplishment knowing you made it with your own hands and brain.

Okay and sorry for something but I hope you stop using the tool and seek the knowledge and skills to make your own designs.
As Skogarmar said, look for a group, YouTube channel or someone who understands, ask your questions and improve your skills.
I personally have some tutorials on my channel.
It’s good to know that help was offered as I also believe that categories should be created and that the choice of winners should be fairer and more transparent
I’ve also been keeping an eye on the tool for some time and always report it when I see something suspicious
I don’t pretend to be an expert on livery stuff but I would be happy to offer a few tips or answer questions to new gamers that are just starting to explore the design editor - it’ll only be basic advice but I have found a few ways to make designs look reasonably OK.
I’m with you on that. My liveries surely aren’t as good as many of the others that were created in a clean way but competing against some of this clearly fake ones makes no sense.
I guess I know which livery you mean. The “soft drink” one, right? I’ve looked at it myself and also made some comparisons to what was shown in the video the creator linked in the reddit thread. There are way too many things that don’t add up. The 1024x768 resolution screenshots which try to hide the pixelation were already a give away alone but something like this clearly goes past the attention of the judges.
Absolutely 100% correct. I too watched his video of “proof” that he made them. Funny, because all he did was open the vinyl group in the editor, ungroup everything, delete every layer, then play the video backwards. It proved nothing. And the order in which the layers were placed is another red flag. Any painter I know who does vinyl groups that are complex as that, will start with the base shape, and/or outline, not just work right to left, and most skip around. Like when I made Black Panther I got the base shape and outline done, then I worked on the face, got sick of it moved onto the chest, got bored, went to the legs etc. Nothing was in order like that.
Some other key things the software doesn’t use gradients to shade, just solid shapes, it also doesn’t use masks.
On that particular livery, if you look close at the tray where it’s curved there are black squares used. The software does that because it doesn’t zoom in far enough to see it’s curved not square. Any painter would use the crescent or parenthesis for that. You also have the fact that the soft drink logo on the glasses is totally different than the main one, another thing I can’t see any painter doing especially for THAT logo which I’ve made and it’s agonizing to make. You also have the woman’s cheek, most painters would use a gradient or two to shade that, not solid shapes.
That “painter” has only been around for 3 months, went from making taxi designs to extremely complex vinyl groups overnight.
So many red flags, and it would have been caught earlier if those in power at T10 would have taken the advice of numerous veteran painters to have a painter involved in the organizing/judging process of these contests.
The front of her hat where the fold is also gives it away. If you zoom in, there are little red dots there. Why would a painter put some tiny red dots there? Software would put it there because it was in the original image. A painter wouldn’t.
Here’s a direct comparison.
So far so good. The different arrangement of the “objects” can be explained with adjusting them to fit the side of the van.
Here is where it gets fishy.
Just look at the Coca-Cola letters on the glass in the center. But there is more. Just watch it a couple times and you’ll notice.
A direct side by side comparison with just some of the main discrepancies marked.
There’s much more that can’t be explained by different lighting or distortion in the mapping of the car and so on. I don’t know how @Andrew9565 and @FormFirm who where defending that guy in the reddit thread haven’t noticed this but it’s clear that the vinyls aren’t A) the same and B) created by hand.
He gave me a chance to download his vinyl group back then and I could zoom in to it. It’s a long time ago so I don’t remember everything anymore.
I’m going to look in to all that again and edit this reply with my conclusions. Since then another designer has pointed out his conclusions which have made me doubt my assessment back then.
