Hi all. I’ve played every Horizon game so far, and loved them all in their own way. I’ve had my fair share of issues (excessive FOMO being the worst), but overall I do consider this series to be the best racing game out there. The news that we’re going back to Forza Horizon 1’s progression system was the biggest selling point for me.
All that said, as with Horizon 5, I’m not pre-ordering, or even buying the Premium or Deluxe versions, and the progression system is the core reason. I’ll be buying the Standard edition on release day so that I can experience the progression properly and feel like I’m earning my way to Legend status, I don’t even want access to the exclusive J50 at the beginning of the game. I may consider grabbing some of the Premium content once I’ve achieved Legend status, but otherwise I think the plethora of freebies early will actually ruin the fun of the game for me.
What I’d really like is an option (people who like freebies can still get them in their current iteration) for DLC’s to be better integrated inot the game; car packs should just make cars available in the autoshow; VIP bonuses should be connected to the wrist-bands, etc. Anyone else feel this way, or is the cacophany of freebies what most people want and I’m just a bit odd?
I’m considering a similar playing style, getting the standard version for a discount on a third party website and then upgrading to the Premium when I’m through the story. This way the Standard + Upgrade shouldn’t be a higher price than the Premium Version.
In FH5 and FH4 it felt like there was either super fast progression, nothing felt like I deserved it, or there was just nothing to do. In FH6 I’m pretty sure there will be plenty of stuff to do and the devs probably want to make sure that players have enough money to try everything out, so buying the Premium for 2x credits is probably way overkill for people who mainly want to enjoy the story with unlocking cars and tuning and racing.
I’m not really worried, but it is certainly annoying that the Premium Edition gives so many bonuses, while the main reason I bought it in the past was, cause it simply is the best deal. Would definitely be cool if all the carpass and carpack cars need to be unlocked through the autoshow and an option to turn off 2x credits.
Having cars available that you didn’t do anything to deserve just feels stupid. This is not a question of self control, it’s about immersion. I’ll never get why so many don’t understand the concept of a good progression in video games, especially if it’s optional.
Having stupid amounts of cash and not spending them, feels as dumb as having no cash cause you spent it all. What happened to playing a game to unlock things without fomo, I’m not even that old and still I can remember FH2 and other games that just did a good job at that.
Otherwise just make everything for free already, like a sandbox game, I’d have no issue with that, as I play multiple games that do that. But I’m sure nobody wants that for FH6, but then wanting a mediocre progression that feels like you’ve been gifted everything? Yeah sure, that makes sense.
