I’m trying to learn how to tune. What is oversteer and under steer and what do you do to compensate. And what do u do to stop the back end from sliding out on long sweeping turns.
It’s in the Forza 5 section but this guide will help you a ton. Worm does his best to guide people on tuning.
Understeer is when you take a corner the front end doesn’t want to actually turn. Oversteer is when your back end comes out. Just like you said on the long sweeping turns. Sometimes it’s as simple as taking the turn too fast for that turn for that car. But it could mean that you could tune to take the corner faster.
For example Road America has that long sleeping turn (I forget which number) and it seems like with most cars I have to stay at under 80 MPH to stay put. But I’m still learning and I’m sure my cars aren’t tuned as good as they can be. I’d be curious to know how fast a properly tuned car can take that corner. But that also has to do with how many G’s your car can take before it slips. That is something you can see when you’re upgrading it. And I think it might be listed somewhere else also. I don’t know, I’m still learning the games ins and outs and I’m no tuner. But I figured I could at least help you out with what those two terms meant.
Something else I should mention. Front wheel drive cars are more prone to understeer and rear wheel drive cars are more prone to oversteer. And you can induce understeer if you’re trying to brake through a corner. A lot of times if you’re taking a corner too fast, even with a rear wheel drive car you can get understeer trying to slow down. So… a good tune won’t help you if that’s what you’re doing. That has more to do with learning the track and when you need to brake and how fast you need to take the corner with that car. Although some cars are more prone and others less. I like the ones that make it easy to drive. hehhehehehehehe AWD cars seem to help with this a bit maybe more than some others.
You probably know that, but figured I’d throw it out there.
And here’s a calculator link for ya… See SynapticLive’s note on the second page in the “Tuning for Tracks” thread, in Tuner’s lounge. In it is a link he sent me to a calculator, that after you input all of your numbers will set you on a path to a solid tune. After that, it’s up to your driving style that affects how that tune works for ya, and what you might wanna tweek so as to fit you. Its just a baseline…hope it helps (BTW its an Excel spreadsheet).
feel free to msg me if you have questions
My father bought me Forza 4 and the wireless wheel back in January and I only touched Forza 4 to play for real today. I am a total noob and have no idea how to tune the cars. Are there guides online for specific cars or just guide to teach you how to tune. To begin I was looking at complete guides for specific cars and then learn how to tune each car to my own liking.
Thanks
