Never any new paint designs

The whole play how you want idea doesn’t seem to work for the paint area.

I watched one stream on mixer last night & moved to level 4 without touching fh4.

Spend 50-100 hours painting, share 30 odd designs & a couple of vinyl groups. Still level 3 as a painter.

Chance of getting the apparent required downloads to become ‘elite’ nil. Unless that is, you happen to be one of the first to upload a design for that car.

That whole level system works really stupid, you can boosted it up just sharing/deleting/sharing same painting all over again, in tunes you get 100 infuluence every time when you shared a tune. And that is really badly done system when you get most downloads just getting tune/painting out as soon as possible. I get somethink like 1500 downloads when i get that barn find land rover done really quickly and next week when it’s take almost hour before i have tune for gt40 i get zero downloads. My most downloaded tunes this moment are also tunes that i have spent lest time to test them. In fh3 my most downloaded tune was at least somethink i could be proud of.

Gents - I would just say we want to be careful not to turn this in to a wishlist of how we think it should work.

The majority of people playing the game at the moment probably don’t even realise there are more than 20 paints available when getting in a new car, they just see the ones in front of them and take the best of what they’re presented with.

The current car I’m working on I’ve done a number of images and used about 4000 layers for those images. Now this takes time, time in which I’m not racing and earning credits & not hooning and earning skill points. If it wasn’t for the occasional Forzathon live/ weekly daily challenge for FP points, I wouldn’t be gaining any XP/ Wheelspins at all.

If when I’m done with the car, I can look forward to sharing it and getting 10 downloads a couple of likes and maybe a follow I’m not really sure that is 1. worth my time in credits. 2. a fair representation of the effort put in.

I don’t like to blow my own trumpet but I’m not bad at the old livery editor - not the best but I get by. The current system, just doesn’t seem equitable to me. It also seems to pretty much thumb it’s nose at the idea of ‘play your way’ if you want to paint, paint. Fine but nobody will ever see it, hmm that being the case, what’s the point?

this is very much it. i think it has to do mostly with the large influx of new xbox game pass players. most of the suggested liveries are basic solid colors. many of those players may not realize the search capabilities, as you say, but also they don’t know that by hitting “Y” you get the manufacturer colors available.

i much preferred seeing friends & follows first and then new. if i still didn’t like anything i could always search.

regardless, the devs hosed this up and it’s being exploited.

Firstly I’m honored to have been named in this thread as an unsung hero.

Echoing my teammate Wildcat’s words I would like to say that I still paint the cars I want to drive. That has always been my main motivation for painting and if some of them get noticed like a few of them have then that is lucky for me and I’m happy. This system is broken there is no doubt about that, the proof is in the disparate range and impossibility of proper correlation with painter rank compared to any tangible metric. That ought to be fixed so that we can be rewarded with our time in the paint shop in part.

The only major gripe I have with this system comes with the “Elite” ranks. Without flogging a dead horse many of these designs as we all know are hardly “elite.” I don’t care about the name or the status of being “elite,” like I said I have always painted just because I want to drive these cars. What upsets me is that there is currently a crony-capitalist system in place in the auction house. Only those who reach a certain status are afforded the opportunity to actually compete in the Auction House marketplace. I have two Nissan R34 GTR’s. I would rather have one GTR and an extra 20 Million dollars but because I, a mere pleb in the eyes of the games algorithms, can’t list the car for more than 89K I will never sell it. This also creates an artificial scarcity within the community for certain cars. Yes, certain cars are designed to be scarce but they are made even more so when the only people who can buy/sell said vehicles are those creators deemed “elite.” Either allow everyone to compete in the auction house or make it exponentially harder to become verified as an elite painter. I have had liveries selected as winners in both Horizon 4 contests so far and neither of these designs have broken the 20 download mark. They are not on unpopular cars either.

I’m not a fan of complaining without also trying to see how to fix things so I would like to echo others words in that the design system ought to be sorted by followed creators, contest winners etc. Perhaps to drive more traffic to these forums an interesting incentive would be that only liveries that were community approved and posted and liked here could rise to the front page. This would drive the major YouTubers and possibly much of their following here as well which might revive the forums.

But please, fix the “elite system.” Elite designs should be T10 picks, designs outside of the front page ought to be easier to find.

PS: Bring back the ability to view a livery on the car before downloading it. This is ESSENTIAL. There are often situations where multiple replicas of the same car will be posted by different creators. Without the ability to view the car in preview it is nearly impossible to differentiate the quality of the designs and often times the most downloaded miss small intricacies on a lot of replicas.

Hi, I’m a one of the newer Forum users and I will add my 2 cents. Don’t hate on my grammar, I’m not a native.

You should just contact the support about the car, I’ve seen your livery being featured, so that worked. Being salty about it at the forums and pulling your design stuff doesn’t help anybody and changes nothing.

I like the post from Ace Ventura because it is a similar situation for me. The biggest motivation to paint a car is to use it myself, but… like any other creative guy, when I finished something I am proud of, I am also glad when other people rate and like it. My “contest #2” (I am not really willing to call it contest, because there is no competition. Pretty much every contestant is a winner. And that is good, because I wouldn’t “win” this otherwise ^^) Golf GTI livery has been downloaded 3 times, liked 2 times, and brought me a follower. This is nice and I am glad some people like what I did for “my” car. The featured window is very hidden, a better solution would have been to put them in the top list when buying a new car for a week, but thats probably a suggestion that is better placed at the contest feedback thread. I am not salty because some guys are making credits through downloads because money in this game isn’t worth anything after the first few days of gameplay. I don’t like the current system, not as a designer and also not as a user of liveries other people made. Search and Filter options are either not good, or not even there. This is giving me a headache already when searching something in my own livery menu, but is absolutely not working when you look for something special. One of the problems is the mindless sharing of everything. There are probably 1,2 Million plain blue cars clogging the server, the fastest ones are also rewarded with a top spot forever, the missing preview means you always download, even if you just want to take a look, which seems to boost this “design” even further and reserve the forever top spot for it. Popular liveries from previous titles and content creators with a large group of followers also reserve some of the top spots, and actually deserve it. I would love to read a dev or community guy bringing some light to this. What is the concept or idea behind this, why did they change it from FH3, is that seen as a flaw by the devs too, or is it working as intended for them? And if it is considered unoptimal… will it change or will it be a FH5 thing? ^^

And another question, doesn’t belong here, but it burns in my soul. Why the hell did you give us 500 ugly shirts with simple logos on them, when we just need a blank shirt and the ability to use the technology that is already in game, to paint it ourselves. I mean, really? Give us different shirt and pants models, and let us do the designs ourselves.

I know this will be hated by some and loved by others, but as talented and dedicated as the best livery designers have been for this series, I feel like they’re done. I feel like they have gotten bored and moved on and are talented enough to put their efforts into more important things.

I think it’s time to open up uploading custom designs from outside the game (i.e. PNG files). This will instantly reinvigorate the livery scene and sure, the 12 people that have done some incredible hand-drawn liveries who have already moved on from this game series might not continue to get the credit they’ve gotten for the past 3 games when they originally designed their vinyl groups, it will make liveries fun again.

If only there was some incentive for a new generation of designers to start painting, oh like I don’t know, the chance that they will get their liveries seen by other players and downloaded. That is kind of what this thread is about.

As to whether or not an import facility should be in the game at some point - well that’s been hashed over in various threads. The latest info suggests, that this will not be a feature anytime soon. Too hard to police in terms of content, possible copyright issues. At the moment things are all ‘fan art’ and fair game skipping over copyright laws for the most part. However allow importing and you/they could have issues down the line.

Would still love to see some comment from one of the team - Krystal. It’d be good to hear your input on this situation.

Thanks

Lmao. The trend continues from the twin mill and other cars. Worse yet the top designs are colour swaps and stock paints from the same damn people as the other cars it happened to. Waste of time to paint anything.

Well, they would say that you’re only 20 people ranting out of 2 million who like everything as it is.

There’s not been a whole lot of ranting in this thread as I see it, there has been some disgruntled players unsatisfied with how this currently works. That in itself does not amount to ranting.

I appreciate Wildcat’s efforts in trying to get this noticed & I’ve been a forum member for a long time and I don’t make a habit of making negative posts, to be fair a lot of them drive me nuts. It’s a genuinely beautiful game environment. I enjoy driving around in it.

The thing is, I also enjoy painting, it’s the reason I still play the game (any Forza title). One of the selling points of this one, was supposed to be we could play the game our way, if we wanted to just paint, we could do that and progress.

Well at the moment, that side of the game seems if not broken, to be severely limited. If I choose to game the game, I can apparently share and unshare the same design to level up my progress as a painter. Or I can just load up a design as soon as a new dlc car is released and hope to get lucky that it stays in the top 20 visible designs.

What I can’t do is spend hours painting a car, trying to make a design to the best of my ability and have it seen by other players. There’s something inherently wrong in a system set up like that.

Whether you consider that to be a rant or not, I can’t say.

im not even close to the level of an actual “elite” painter but i totally feel its wrong for soemone to get a car put on a paintjob they got from hitting Y when buying the car in the first place then sharing that and getting thousands of downloads. These people are capitalising on a broken system that then transfers considerable (overpowered) benefits to them in the auction house meanwhile the people who actually paint nice things they dont even show up, at all.

I place simple paints on my cars usually its the grey blob camo with a semi transparent blue or grey then a russian air force style red star with some numbering. Though im currently transitioning to a new idea, have built myself a little spaceship layer group and am currently building up letting for my little logo thing. got like 110 layers in the spaceship and its somewhere around 150 for the lettering so far, nothing amazing but even what im doing is FAR more elite then pressing Y picking red then uploading it for max gains

Imgur: The magic of the Internet ← taken before i decided to accurately replicate the lettering, plus some tweaks. Plus the groups in white on a darkish grey/black looks better hence why im moving more to the darker bases.

My point is - Even my designs are more eligible for overpowered AH status compared to the no effort works that blanket the paintjob selections on offer - And the guys (and probably girls) who do even more definately shouldnt be floundering in no mans land because they were not in the first 20 people to buy the car and press Y or slap on thier hasty no skill job from 1-?? games ago

So unless you are a You Tube person, and people seek out your name, your Tunes and Liveries go unnoticed. Unfortunate. I know I never see the people I follow. In FH3 they showed up first, then Popular ones, then some random new ones. At least I don’t have to see everything “littlevixen” ever does. That got old. Most of the ones I share are basic colors, with GT Stripes. My Layers get a couple of downloads a week, its just basic GT Stripes. I’m not creative enough for all those fancy things, I have nothing but admiration for the skill, and time that it takes to make those designs. I’ll never be at the level of Don Joe Won Song, and his millions of tune and livery downloads, but with the way it is now, I have only had 2 downloads of a livery. Right now its all about dumb luck to get noticed, and the people I follow, I need to search for each time I get a new car. tedious at best, but Worth it.

99,9999% of all liveries are ugly mess. Monster energy, gold with pink wheels. Some people dowload them, bcs they can’s find factory color screen. And factory colors screen should be deafault not liveries…

I’ve made some damn good liveries, but no one ever sees them. Nor is there any reasonable way for me to attempt to raise my visibility. I just don’t bother with trying, and just paint for myself. Which is a shame, I think.

Receipts from my latest: Rally Fighter: Battle of Britain Spitfire - Album on Imgur

Currently I’m working on a series of old Porsche liveries that are based on classic sci fi rockets like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. Those aren’t done yet.

It is so frustrating but we artists are used to toiling in obscurity.

Just done a quick test in a live environment:

  • Head into Creative Hub, I see that ratR0 has a Featured Design for the GMC Vandura.
  • Logic would dictate that as a featured Design, it should be first on the Recommended list when I attempt to buy the car via the Autoshow (this is how it works in Forza Motorsport 5, 6, 7 and Forza Horizon 2 and 3).
  • I go to Autoshow, and select the GMC Vandura.
  • The “Featured Design” isn’t first on the Recommended Designs list.
  • In fact, the design, a contest-winning design that has been Featured by Turn 10, isn’t on the Recommended Designs list at all.

This is not right.

I think that is how it works. Featured means: You randomly show up on that Creative Hub window. They probably don’t have the mechanics to “recommend” someone manually.
I don’t know if suggestions are read here or if I should post it somewhere else, but if I could make a wishlist, there would be a Tab with all Contest Winners ever on that screen after buying a car too(splits between all the cars , so I guess there is enough place, and a tab with liveries from people I follow! (Because that’s why I follow them…) That would help a lot when searching for liveries. Also, the number of likes in correlation to the number of downloads could be an indicator to show and recommend hidden pearls to the community. Because most of us have one thing in common: We like to drive nice and nice looking cars. Help us with that.

If you’re talking about the devs or the T10/PG community people, yes, they have complete control over anything to do with anything in the game. So, yes, they can manually add designs to Featured Designs or whatever they want to do with it.
