My first attempt at painting

Also my first attempt with the in-game camera!

I think I went too far with the settings; the car is actually black and gold, but appears dark brown and light tan in that pic.

Here was my inspiration…

I took Smokey Yunick’s Chevelle and copied that look for my Nova. Extremely simple design, but one of my favorite race car paint schemes I’ve ever seen.

Congrats on you’re first piece. Excellent job with the painting and camera work. Pretty cool inspiration and your replica is excellent.

Well done for sharing :+1:t5: Even though it was a long time ago, I can still remember being extremely hesitant about posting my first attempt at painting (I think it was days before I finally plucked up the courage, LoL!)

Maybe after a while & more experience in the paint booth, you might revisit this one & tackle that metallic effect for the number 13?

Thank you all for the responses! I appreciate the kind words.

Yep, that’s the one thing about my paint scheme that bothers me the most. I really wanted to make the numbers chrome, but I couldn’t figure out how to do it. Some of Smokey’s cars used a gold number so I’m not losing sleep over it, but the chrome looks a lot cooler IMO.

For comparison’s sake…

Masking in Forza is easy enough to do if a little time consuming. The effect is well worth the effort though. First you need to create the word or number you want to mask. Next place a different coloured square underneath. Then use various shapes to cover the square making sure you don’t overlap your original vinyl group. This will give you a cutout version that can have any finish you like.

I had a look on YouTube & found this tutorial by QK Timmy Flush (once of these parts & a top painter). It shows how to apply your cutout to the car, hope that helps :slightly_smiling_face:

Looking forward to more! This is a pretty good job for your first time out. Smokey Yunick was a legend too, the old Basketball gas tank trick on his T/A Camaro and such.

Nice work on the custom numbers, it’s rare you see someone make their own font on their first go out.

For a first piece, let me truly congratulate you and hope to see future works. Well done. Believe it or not, early racecars and such were not complicated and it doesn’t take wicked skill to create a beautiful piece of art.
