I know I cant be the only one dealing with this issue. There is no mute/unmute option and if you are a PC user with an USB mic with no mute button attached you are stuck with a hot/open mic.
After a few hours of looking around and attempting to write a couple of scripts I came across this little beta program that seems perfect for the job. I have only tested for about a day so I cant promise it is the perfect solution, so far so good though. I did a virus check and it looks fine via McAfee.
The only problem I have had so far is Forza 7 not recognizing when I attempt to unmute/activate the mic. This would happen randomly and was a bit frustrating. The solution: Run as Administrator. Ever since I started running it in Admin mode, it has been working exactly as advertised.
*you can turn down or completely mute the sound notifications for the program using the windows mixer.
Download 0.1.8.4 Beta_Setup.exe and profit.
I will not use programm my self, since I have mute button, but I want to post here an appreciation that you took time to making a useful script for community.
This game is a first game I ever played that have voicecom always On. And I played a lot of games for the past 30 years. It is crazy. I cant even understand, what goes thru developers mind when they implement this feature. It is out of this world. It is next level
To be crystal clear. I did not write this script/program. I was in the middle of writing a script but came across some problems (im a pleb), which forced me to do some more research, which led me to the program I linked. All credit goes to “mistificat0r” for writing the awesome program. Maybe I should have made that more clear in the OP.
All that being said, another full day of testing and the program has been running flawlessly ever since I started using the “Run as Administrator” option. Seems to work fine with OBS as well, for anyone interested.
I have been trying to spread the word as much possible. My poor headphones and/or speakers cant take much more abuse! lol. Pay it forward!

Well 3 years later I’m. In the same situation.
I’m using an application called MicMute, I have assigned an hotkey and the problem is solved.
