Multiplayer Racing School Idea

I have been pondering this idea for a long time, as a way to cut down on the griefers in online multiplayer and league events. I wanted something that would be fair, but still challenging, and promote better driving habits.
All of these Racing School events would require the player to a) watch an instructional intro explaining the event, why it’s important, and tips on how to successfully complete it. The difficulty, explanations and tips would progressively get more in depth. Every stage would promote racing etiquette and, hopefully, elevate driver performance.
I’m sure these would need to be tweaked to fit the capabilities of the game, but they are a good starting point for a discussion, in my opinion. This isn’t a wish list, or a demand. It’s merely an attempt to raise awareness of a real issue with online multiplayer, and brainstorm ideas on how we, as a community, can improve our racing skills and etiquette and elevate the level of online play at the same time.

Racing School - Beginner - successful completion earns beginner drivers license that allows access to online multiplayer events. This racing school event is unlocked at game launch and available to everyone.

Driving line off, ABS off, TCS/STM on.
Stock D Class car, 6 drivatars (expert) with the same stock car.

6 events on different tracks. 6 laps per event. Player must win each event with at least 3 clean laps, while making at least 25% perfect turns and 25% perfect passes.

Racing School - Advanced - successful completion earns Advanced drivers license and access to online multiplayer and advanced tier leagues. This racing school is unlocked after successful completion of 25% of career mode and successful completion of beginner racing school.

Driving line off, ABS off, TCS/STM off.
Stock B Class cars, 12 drivatars (professional), with same car.

6 events on different tracks, 4 laps per event. Player must win each event with at least 2 clean laps, while making 50% perfect turns and 50% perfect passes.

Racing School - Professional - successful completion earns Professional drivers license and access to online multiplayer (pro level) and all pro leagues. This racing school is unlocked after successful completion of 50% of career mode and successful completion of all previous racing schools.

No assists, Stock S Class cars, 18 drivatars, (pinnacle), with same car.

6 events, on different tracks, 3 laps per event. Player must win each event with at least 2 clean laps, while making 75% perfect turns and 75% perfect passes.

Racing School - Pinnacle - successful completion earns the Pinnacle drivers license and access to online multiplayer and league events at pinnacle level. This racing school is unlocked after successful completion of 75% of career mode and successful completion of all other racing schools.

No assists, Stock R1 Class cars, 23 drivatars (pinnacle), with same car.

6 events on different tracks, 10 laps per event. Player must win each event with at least 8 clean laps, while making 75% perfect passes and 75% perfect turns.

Again, this is just a rough draft. An idea. I am hoping this discussion will be a positive one. Moderators, If it is posted in the wrong place, or inappropriate, please move it, lock it or delete it. Thanks.

In principle I like the idea, however, a driving school for online licensing should focus more on rewarding clean driving and the skill level of the AI over the other assists they may or may not use. No assist, all sim for the highest level is a little much I think.

That why it’s a rough draft. I don’t profess to know how difficult to make the school achievements. I just believe they have to be difficult enough to discourage griefers from pursuing the higher levels. Of course, it will never eliminate all of it, but if it could eliminate a large portion it would be worthwhile.
It also needs to be instructive in some way. I’m not qualified to develop any training tips for racing that would do that. But I know there are folks in the community who are qualified.

lol yes it would be good wouldn’t it,but i can’t see turn 10 going for it as it would lead to a fall in sales,i’m sure of that.Once word got around as to what you have to go through there would be a lot of gamers who wouldn’t want to be bothered with it,ideally all clean racers would love to see some thing like that implemented, but realistically?can’t see it happening, money makes the world go around i’m afraid.

I agree with a lot of your ideas. However I don’t think pinnacle or any of the schools for that matter should be tied to a percentage of career completion. I only really race online and do rivals. I have probably completed less than 10 percent of career as I find it mind numbingly boring. Something certainly needs to done though about online. The most simple solution would be to go back to user hosted lobbies but that’s a whole other discussion.

I like the intent, but it shouldn’t be tied to assists and I wouldn’t endorse anything that forced anyone to play career mode.

Personally I’d much prefer to see T10 split career and online, sell career as a boxed product and run MP as a paid-for service.

Exactly my line of thinking too.

I can’t imagine this ever realistically happening. If word got out that a top tier driving game would be unable to be played online without an additional cost over the box and Xbox Live, there would be a pretty decent backlash. There has to be a better way of doing things other than putting basic multiplayer behind a paywall. Simple measures such as making corner cutting and driving off track have a greater negative effect like penalties or slow surfaces would be a start. In other games, if you break the rules you can see temporary bans or race start delays for yourself.

I like the idea.

The races should be longer though, no races with 3-4 laps against the AI, as these short races in many cases are what gives people habbits of brute forcing their way through a field.

All races should be at least 8 laps.

Also tiing it to carrer mode is porberly not a good idea eather, as some people just dont want to play the carrer.

That might be an interesting approach to the game, but it wouldn’t do a thing to stop griefers. Well, unless they charged a lot or per use, then it might. Still an interesting idea though.

Good idea.

Won’t happen in this game’s lifetime but I hope something along these lines gets implemented into the next.

If the objective is to clean up MP racing I’d consider doing it the other way around. Everyone starts with full access but dropping below a certain set of criteria over a ser number of events would result in you dropping a level. You’d either have to practice, up your game or stop messing about to get back up to the unrestricted level. For those that just want to fool around then eventually they’d all end up in the same place. Some of the worst trolls are actually quite competent players but have little interest in racing or allowing others to race.

Bad people would just make new accounts.

I like the idea of a racing school, especially if it gives me feedback about what I’m doing wrong (braking to soon/late, to much/little throttle) and some pointers about tuning would also be nice. As it is now, I’m just not consistent enough to tell whether an adjustment is making me faster or not.
One thing I am wondering about though: You’re mentioning 75% perfect passes as a requirement. Maybe there is another way of getting these (and I would like to know), but I’m getting them for passing close by at a considerable speed difference. Every time I’m only slightly faster, the drivatars swerve, making my pass ‘good’ or the speed difference is to little and again the pass is only ‘good’. Personally I consider the passes in which I get next to the opponent, outbraking him and taking the line as far more perfect passes, than the ones in which I blaze by in a much faster car.

The perfect passes and perfect turns were just ideas for criteria. I figure that if the game can give me credit for them, it should also be able to show me how to do it properly.
I’m not opposed to any idea that can help reduce overly aggressive behavior and increase racing etiquette. That’s why I threw this out here for discussion.
I enjoy multiplayer, but find myself getting frustrated and screaming at my tv a lot more lately. At 57 years old, that kind of frustration isn’t healthy, LOL.
But seriously, even a good discussion about what is happening, why it’s happening and how to prevent it, might make a difference.
Good replies, keep them coming.

Really good idea. Anything that promotes good driving etiquette is a good idea IMO. Maybe if you had a seperate lobby for the people that want a clean race that follows the licence idea and still have an open lobby for the people that aren’t interested. That way Forza can maintain the same audience.

Shoving 24 players on track and giving only 2 laps will alway cause people to be aggressive. Even if they are well trained.

not a fan of license tests in Gran Turismo. The problem is if you can’t complete the tests the rest of the game is locked to you. They are very difficult sometimes and it can get real frustrating doing the same thing 100 times until you get it. Does it make you a better racer? In the end, Yes it does but it can drive you mad lol. If they would just put penalties in or bring back user ran lobbies that are publically open it would solve the problem.

The licensing wouldn’t restrict anyone from any game features. The licensing would just determine the level of online multiplayer you have access to. Casual players wouldn’t be required to do a thing. The individual could decide how far they want to pursue their licensing.
The guidelines I used may be too difficult, or too easy, I just don’t know. But, I don’t see how public lobbies wouldn’t help with leagues.

In x class lobbies it’s pretty simple to spot the wreckers before they even race, they all have indy cars equipped for every race so just kick em from the lobby, but people never do,you might have18 lotus’s and 3indy car’s in a lobby, well it’s pretty obvious who is going to cause chaos…bring back the old voting system, its so covert in f6 and i dont know why, make it more obvious i say.
