Been playing online multiplayer for two weeks now, and have to say it’s terrible. My cars are nicely tuned and pretty much equal to or better than opponents, now we all no pretty much every race is just carnage on the first lap. But 9 times out of 10 regardless off my grid position I end up last after the first few crashes and try and struggle to catch up with the pack, on the old occasion I’ve come out of a crash unscathed and broke ahead in 6th or 7th with the pile up smouldering in the rear view mirror, but low and behold that mangled wreckage of cars soon come flying past me even though I’ve made no mistakes on track. Something just don’t seem right. Never had this issue in previous forza games.
Only two weeks to see the carnage? Lucky you.
It’s been like this for almost 10 years now.
Been having the same experience. Braking to approach a corner inevitably means getting smashed in the rear by someone who treats my car as a brake. Hopper lobbies filled with smash up derby. Almost nobody waits for a safe place to pass but simply smashes you out of their way. Not to mention that it’s a rain day far too often in the online lobby.
I miss terribly the Forza 4 user created races that one could make and have control over. Without that the game is far less satisfying and limiting.
Friend request me online if you want a racing opponent to join a private match who races clean, without assists
Git gud.
Seriously though, don’t be so disappointed about finishing mid pack. There will always be better tuners and racers than you. Hell, for a month I couldn’t finish higher than 6th or so, but once I got a better feel for FM7’s physics, I have a stable of cars tuned really well (I don’t use downloaded tunes, because they’re just incompatible with me apparently), and regularly finish on the podium on most tracks.
The trick to doing well in MP lobbies is to set a good, clean lap time. If you’re at the back of the pack with no hopes of catching up, just slow down and wait til the path is clear, then set a blazing fast clean lap, and you’ll start at the front of the pack in the next race, where there is less likely going to be carnage. Yes, dirty racers and childish rammers may still ruin the race, but when you’re out front, if you’re a good, fast driver, they can’t catch up to you and ruin it.
I used to have this problem more often, but as ive progressed and got way faster in the game if you’re just able to avoid the carnage turn 1 you’re usually fine and sometimes some other good drivers gets through aswell and that then develops into a nice battle for hopefully first place. The best thing you can do is as said from the guy above set a good lap time and try your best to make it clean which will make you start near the front if not pole position. Then i’d also suggest on most tracks to pick a car that got a good launch and try not to break too much in the first corner and turn in as soon as you can, also the inside line seems to most often work best just to avoid people who simply wont break. Now unfortunately that usually for me means I drive with traction control on cuz it makes for better launch. But sometimes also I get caught in the initial pile-up and sometimes it can’t get helped, but as long as you’re a good driver, slow down when you see trouble up ahead, usually they will go off by themselves and you can just freely get past them, go for safe overtakes, don’t really trust anyone in the back of the pack. Also i’d advise you to check out endurance hoppers, usually they’re more clean and fair.
This game just get worse online multiplier and I’m in a night time race but my cars headlights are of the game is a joke
It’s not multiplayer that’s flawed, it’s the people in it (not all, but most) and based on past precedent, it’s not about to change. Clean racers have two options, either accept it and crash around or race with groups that do private lobbies and leagues (TORA, ORL, VGN, V8X etc.)
After all these years I still haven’t learned how to survive the crashes.
I see others get spun and crashed but somehow manage to keep moving forward.
I always end up facing the wrong way and pinned to the wall or tires.
There’s a problem with this statement; both parts can’t be true…
If you’ve only been playing online for two weeks my guess is you’re leaving plenty of lap time on the table. If you’re never making any mistakes you’re not pushing hard enough. If you’re getting shunted in corners very often, that’s because you’re braking too early. I’d advise the following:
- Turn all assists off, set gears to manual with clutch, (remap clutch to A in settings) and then just press A + B to shift up, A + X to shift down. This is the fastest way to change gear.
- Go into Free play, bring up the telemetry for brake pressure as you do laps and make sure every corner you are hitting 60-80% brake pressure, if not you’ll be losing a lot of time every time you brake. The force feedback in Forza is excellent for braking, you can feel when the wheels are about to lock, get used to that sensation.
- Compare your tunes fastest lap times to the most popular tunes for the car you’re driving, if you can’t get near the lap time of the most popular tunes you aren’t building the tunes efficiently. There are lots of very funny quirks with the PI system where you can waste valuable points. For example; you never need to upgrade the clutch if you are running manual w/clutch, don’t really need to upgrade the gearbox, cams are a very expensive way to increase power and should be last on the list unless you are building a speed car, aero can sometimes drop your PI.
- PRACTICE. Practice. Practice. Hit every apex, make sure the game is scoring every corner a Perfect or a Good at the very least.
Whilst it’s easy to blame the community, if you get ahead of the pack and you are genuinely quick, you won’t ever have to worry about them again.
What class have you been racing in and what cars do you prefer to use, because some cars are just potatoes on wheels and you’ll never get close to a podium in them, no matter how good your tune is?
Potatoes on wheels, lmfao that’s gold.
Best advice I can give is dont run any assists other than maybe driving line.
Its hilarious in some of the higher class hoppers watching all the driving aids make the other players crawl off the start line while I fly ahead into turn 1.
Manual is faster than automatic and unassisted braking means you can brake much later.
If you’re first and about to lap someone, dont lap them, hang behind them and wait for them to make a mistake and come off the track then drive past. Otherwise they will try and ruin your race.
